Help indentify a Bianchi frame ......

Hello
I was given this beautiful Bianchi frame/fork by the previous owner when I bought my Miyata from him. I'm thinking its a pretty decent frame as the dropouts are SunTour GT and although I haven't weighed the frame, its fairly light. The paint is original and in better shape than the pictures portray (camera flash). Sorry for the crappy pictures, the sun was going down and I was rushed.

My son rode the bike for a while as a single speed and has returned it to me because he felt it was to large for him. I'm just trying to figure out what I have, the s/n is LS09583. I still have the inner chain ring, soon to be re-installed. The Bianchi stickers were peeling badly on the down tube and I peeled them off and cleaned off the glue with some WD-40.

Any thoughts are appreciated

Bikes: enough bikes to qualify for Hoarders......

Looks kinda like my Japan built 81~ super, but without decals it might be tough to pin down. Should be at least chromo since the chainstays are chrome.

The downtube stickers just read "Bianchi" in a goldish/yellow color. The headtube sticker is still there. The crank is a SR Super Apex double FWIW.

I'm thinking early 80's vintage and middle of the road (at best). Nice frame though!

No, it didn't. No decals or stickers indicating what kind of tubing either. I don't think the PO removed them as he seemed to be extremely detail oriented with his bikes. Probably someone before him if it had a Piaggio decal. I'm sure at one point it had a tubing decal or sticker.

The "sticker" (not a decal) I removed was literally dripping off the down tube and peeling heavily. In hind sight a picture would have been nice.

Wow, you're good. That looks to be identical to my frame. I wonder if the tubing is double butted or straight gauge? If in fact mine is an '81' I'd have to think its double butted or am I wrong?

thank you *blushing* actually that CL posting may be wrong. the '81 Special did not have chrome stays the '80 however did. according to the catalog the frame is 3 tube Db Chro-Moly with Manganese stays.

Thanks again Bianchigirll, I'll just call it a 1980 Bianchi Special and go from there. I need to round up some pieces and I'll get her back on the road. The frame might be a bit small for me but I'll find a good home for her if it doesn't work out.

Thanks again,

Bruce
