Identify this Raleigh
Just found this Raleigh on my local Kijiji and was wondering if anyone could give me some information on it. All I know from the seller is that it has 555sl Tubing and that he believes the derailleurs are Shimano 515 which I'm pretty sure is actually SIS. Any info at all would be appreciated.

appears to be an '83 to '86 Grand Prix judging from the listed tube-set and the look of that crank (which I've seen on an '78 JPN. bike also) .The gold head tube was out for a coukple-few years; other names, #'s etc. might help; best I can do. Above average bike for it's day. So if it is what I think, what I just stated, the H. Bar & stem's been changed to the Flat-Bar. 555sl was like the second best tubing, it matters more than the precise year.

I have flipped pretty much the same bike only lower end and with the original drop bars. It is an '85 Raleigh Olympian. Nothing special, but I quite like the color scheme.

Just out of curiosity and if you don't mind, how much were you able to flip it for. The guy is asking $75 on Kijiji.

Granted, the following is common with other bikes, but it beats me how sellers of the Raleighs produced during the Huffy era are completely oblivious to the model name slapped directly on the top tube.
Definitely not a Grand Prix - '83 was gunmetal/black, '84/5, chrome + red; '86, pastel green + purple. '83s also had cursive "signatures" for the model name - this is block letter.
555SL is worth going after. Assumed to be equivalent to Tange 2.

I agree cudak888. I was going with the sketchty imfo. Presuming it's the stated tubing, it's a decent hybrid at this point. Hence my range of years, you have it more down than I though.
And it IS very peculiar just how coy and slippery sellers and those who post at times can be regarding basic imfo. ep. model etc. It's like " this is a test".
