It was cool and there was a threat of rain so I opted to wear a jacket that is waterproof and very windproof... the gloves and mitts are new-ish and are nothing more than liner gloves under flip mitts.

They can be used alone or paired up when more warmth is required and by the middle of the ride I was down to the liners... the brandy probably had a lot to do with me feeling warmer.

No . . . such . . . thing.

At least not in this Clydesdale's universe.

It's a little over 300 metres from the valley floor to the city proper... the grades probably topped out at about 12% on this route because we took one of the easier ways up.

Almost everyone rode up despite having limited gears and heavier bikes (there were 4 fg bikes on the ride and a few ss bikes)... I was the oldest person on the ride by a fairly wide margin (I turned 44 yesterday) and was riding one of the fixed gear bikes.

That climb was a good workout as I don't have 100% use of my left leg due to some nerve damage but I was feeling pretty good and was spinning a pretty low gearing.

Happy Birthday SixtyFiver!
Two tweed rides and a pirogi ride in one year - makes me want to move to Edmonton!

We had our Tweed ride earlier this month, pics are here: https://www.flickr.com/groups/bostontweedride/
Speaking of black on black paint schemes; we had what I think was a wartime Raleigh in blackout trim: https://www.flickr.com/photos/sigawsu...ostontweedride.

And we had deli rides and market rides and impromptu midnight rides... it was a good summer.

We don't really need a reason to stage a ride.

That definitely looks like a wartime bike.

The lack of anything reflective (like chrome) was also important when you were fearing possible invasion or sending bikes to the front

Yellow Jersey has full chain cases. There is a thread in Utility cycling or living car free.

You would have fit in perfectly methinks what with your new tweed worthy ride.

I need to search out some NE Ohio Tweed rides. We will be drinking Great Lakes beer of course!

You will need a hip flask filled with your favourite brandy or single malt scotch...

Sixty Fiver: In addition to my admiration for your ride and the fact that you have friends that appreciate old steel, I read thru the Edmonton Bike Society link. What a great organization. Last year I spent some time at the Community Cycling Center in Portland, and it looks like your organization offers similar programs. I want to start something like this someday in my community.

That green Raleigh Superbe is gorgeous, and your Lenton is not too shabby either. I have seen your breifcase set up before but never told you how cool that is. A 50's businessman would be proud to ride that to work.

I watched that old Superbe go from a beaten and stripped donor bike at the bike co-op to what it is now... the briefcase actually dates to the late 30's and serves quite well for carrying everything I need for the day.

I'd be up for a NE Ohio version, I think I could find something appropriate to ride.

Count me in for any Ohio version too. I took my gran sport to the local club ride today and it was hilarious. Not only was it capitol O-L-D but it has fenders and giant tires. There was a beautiful Klein in the group today and a hot pink Shogun.

Sixty Fiver, I still might send that goofy freewheel your way. I could not get used to it, I was either spinning my brains out or working my butt off!
