They wander all over the place. Supposedly most of the Shimano are 132mm range, but IIRC you can remove some spacers on some of the hubs and get them down to around 126mm without too much trouble.

The Lady's Super Sport I'm working on for my wife is spaced at 120mm, typical for the late '60s. I thought I would have to radically spread the rear stays to fit the Nexus 8 speed in the drops, but I didn't! It was only off by about 3-4mm. I could manage the spread with my measly hands.

At least for the wheel I have, it was under 126mm. This surprised me because the Harris site specs them at 132mm to 135mm for the brake equipped model.

The Sturmey-Archer models can be anywhere from 115 to 135, depending on what nuts and washers one uses. They come set for 124mm, with two 6mm locknuts. If one is removed, it's down to 118mm. Replace it with a standard SA 3mm locknut, it's at 115mm, perfect for an old Raleigh. That's the attraction to me.

If 1:1 was in the middle, lace it up with aluminum rims, and I'd have a terrific commuter bike. As it is, I slog to work on my steel rims and 3 speed AW hub, and it's worked fine. I do have my days when I wished I had a tweener gear, though.
