Schwinn Panther

Pretty much complete bike, just got back from picking it up, an almost four hour ride! (up and back) but well worth it. (to me) I'll clean her up and add her to the stable, I think she qualifies as both Classic and Vintage! and I'll through in a little bit of "antique" for flavor!

Fantastic!

Single speed, or kick-back hub? I'd kind of like to find a bike with one of those old 2-speed kickbacks.

Thanks, its a single speed, I had a kick back hub in the "for trades" section of the bike forums forums for a good while and no one asked about it! so I traded it to the LBS last week!

I think it's late fifties. Here's the 1960 Panther II dealer catalog page. Note the different chainguard.

Thanks Scooper! Rear rack and tank are different too, my tank is longer and thinner and has a horn button, don't know if it works yet but I hope it does!

Bikes: The keepers: 1969 Magneet Sprint, 1971 Gitane Tour de France, 1973 Raleigh Twenty, 3 - 1986 Rossins.

Definitely late 50's - that one was about two steps down from the Mark IV Jaguar my parents got me in 1958. I remember the front rack (my Jag had the same), and that rear rack with the jet pod reflectors brings back memories.

Bring that one back lovingly. Complete boy's framed bikes from that vintage are awful far and few between.

OK, according to this https://www.angelfire.com/rant/allday...innCodes3.html its September 1967, serial number JC5775 found on the left rear drop, but! in the info I found on the web it should have the 2 speed kickback hub? maybe special order? or not orig wheels? Heres a 1967 Panther, the guy claims it has a 2 speed kickback hub?

Nice find! I also have many middleweight and balloon tire bikes. They are not very popular on BF as compared to the lightweight bike but are classics in my mind.I ran a post about a month ago to see if anyone else was into these old bikes and very few pics turned up.maybe we will start a new trend.I'll throw a picture of a middleweight and maybe more will pop up.Good luck with the restoration. It will look great when finished.

OK, no disrespect but what compelled you to post this on the forum? Better yet why would you think that it's any of your business? I can't for the life of me understand this kind of bull****? I guess I can't ask questions on the forums if I may decide later that I want to sell my bike?? or maybe I can't choose to sell my bike after I thought I wanted to keep it? Whatever the reason it's my reason and none of your business, this makes me feel some type of way about you dude, and it's not good.

I'm selling my Schwinn too. I love it but I just keep bending those tiny seatposts.
I'm keeping the non-origional stuff and selling the frame and chainguard to a guy who wants to restore it.
I'm on the lookout for a diamond frame with a thicker seatpost.

I'm gonna miss it.

The guy hasn't pushed the paypal button yet. He said he'd do it Friday after he got back from his trip but I don't remember whether it was supposed to be this Friday or last Friday. One side of me hopes he backs out. The other side of me just bought another old Trek... Wait, those were both the same side of me.
