How much grease?

How much grease?
I have Schwinn Traveler. This past weekend I pulled the cranks and took out the bottom bracket. It consists is a spindle, two bearing sets and a plastic spacer in the tube. How much grease do I pack on the bearings? Do I fill the whole plastic spacer, or just coat the bearings?

Liberally coat the bearings and the cups. The plastic spacer helps keep dirt and water out. Don't fill that up but be generous with the grease on the bearings.

Generous, but not too generous. Clean out any old grease, wipe the cups and the spindle clean, then put a coating of grease in the cups--enough so that when you stick the bearing balls into the grease they're about half covered. It's a good idea to use new bearing balls. They're cheap--just a few bucks for the set. Then cover them with another thin layer. I like to do that by greasing the bearing surfaces on the spindle. Reassemble and adjust. Don't forget to replace the plastic sleeve.

REmember to apply a thin coat of grease on the BB cup threads and the threads on the BB shell, specially the fixed cup, to minimize the development of corrosion and seizure of the part to the frame.
