Mid 60s ladies Dunelt

I got my first FREE bike the other day, it's a 1966 (or so) Dunelt with a 3 speed Sturmey Archer. The paint is buried under grime but it appears to be in reasonably good condition. I am ecstatic about the decals so my initial question has to do with clean up. I want to avoid doing anything that will honk up the decals, with that in mind what would be a safe way about simply cleaning all the grime off of it?

Also, the fenders are wanked beyond repair so is Ebay going to be my best bet of finding some chrome fenders that will fit 26 x 1-3/8 wheels?

Chris

Nice FIND... when I was a kid, a smalltown Sporting Goods Store sold Raleighs and a few other bikes. Dunelts for whatever reason were stocked in lady's models moreso than men's and few Raleighs were lady's. They're comparable. I suggest the e-bay route, makes perfect sense and I've done it. Don't rely solely on auctions. Rather dial-in on e-bay seller's stores via observing items at auctio, then proceed to a variety of stores, they're not costly. I've seen unfinished OE go for modest prices as well as reg. chrome ones. It's a modest Lady's Light Roadster and a very nice one .

What's wrong with the fenders?

Once again, I would recommend Simple Green for general clean up. It always works for me.

I'll try the simple green and the part of the fenders that are munched do not show up in the photo I posted. They are wrinkled/smashed up pretty good. I'd rather replace them with chrome ones than try and bend them back into shape. Again, the read one is munched pretty good.

You'll be surprised at how nicely that bike will clean up ! Just take it easy with harsh cleaners & rubbing on the decals. Yes, chrome replacement fenders are found online.
