Per those bikes, I really wanted to just put the picture up but thought if I did not include the link since they are not mine, that would have been unethical. But I'd say one might be able to get $1200. I see the CL also has an early '50s Rudge for $400, some would pay that for a proper model. But I wasn't really wanting to get into the cost part, just the pictures.

That Rudge is a nice one, I actually saw that one doing a search this week. It's in decent shape, has a Dynohub and lights, and has a full chaincase that isn't installed but is included with sale (and is depicted.) If I was in Minneapolis, and the frame was a 23" size, I'd definitely consider it!

Seeing that '54 Rudge makes me miss my '53 Rudge. If only it wasn't a 21 inch frame.

Sorry, adding to the funeral atmosphere...

That Rudge is worth more than the $5K Raleighs to me.

And I'm not sure if they are bluemels mudguards either, looking at the front mudguard it looks like a steel Raleigh guard that has been painted silver? But it's hard to tell from the small picture provided.
The decals and 3 pin chainwheel makes me think Neal got the age right but you are correct with the mudguards. Chrome steel profile from a sixties model. The front brake/lever looks OK to me apart from the fact it runs to the right side. It's the left lever and rear centre-pull(?) that's wrong.

I wouldn't pay too much for that example...little rusty too.

How were the Raleigh Superbe/Sports frames, specifically ladies, measured? I've got one that is 21" crank to top of seat lug but it is more like a 19.5-20" c-c.

I suppose mine is both 19.5 and 21" . Were the official measurements c-c or c-t?

The catalogs listed Gents Sports at 21 and 23. I have both and they measure exactly that from the crank centerline to the very top of the seat tube.
I'm confident it's centerline to tube top.

But through the help of @sixtyfiver; it became a beautiful machine.

I looked at the photos and like seeing the evolution and refinement of a project over time.

I've never seen any of the badge engineered Raleighs with those fenders or brake levers, but the rest of the bike looks very much like a Raleigh. A bit pricey, but it is a 23" frame. To me, that adds value. Nice bike.

Mudguards, frame details, reflector and chainring are identical to my Robin Hood also part of the Raleigh family.

Good lookin' bike.
I wonder what kind of minimum order would have been required back then for your own brand.
I imagine that Raleigh also supplied in house design services for the custom transfers and head badges.

Every Robin Hood I've seen has the same chromed steel finial as Raleighs on the front fender. This one looks different, like this aluminum one.

It would appear that Union Cycles were British knock offs built in Holland, Germany and Japan.

Had a blast riding mine 15 miles on Saturday. We had a big Mardi Gras celebration and I was in the parade with some of the co op guys. The wife was coming later so I figured I would ride the 13 miles to the parade route start. All went smooth until I got a 1/2 mile from the meeting place when the NDS rear axle nut loosened up on me. At least I was close. I think the headset is a bit loose on me as well, but it's time to do an overhaul anyway.

Now that I realize that they're non British I'll stop posting about these....
One last item. Here's a nice one and it shows how closely they were copying the British models.
