That is an especially nice one, but It seems that he is a year or too late to expect a big price for a common Raleigh. Those days are gone. For a while at least.

Unique colour, impeccable condition. Can't say I've seen one with a rear AG hub. The twist grip kinda predates the rest of the bike which looks to be at least 69/70 given the pedals, levers, lights and crank. Maybe they used up some old stock parts. But $750? Maybe 1/3 of that on the best of days, or I'm just out of touch.

I don't think they'll get any bites at that price. I think $200-$250 is fair.

I have been watching this for months, just out of curiosity. I do want another Twenty, but not that one. Before Christmas, or maybe in November it went down to $550.

I can see an owner adding an aftermarket twist grip shifter, but it's hard to imagine a shopper buyer ditching an AW hub and lacing up an AG. Slick looking lamp and tail lamp too.This may be a factory edition. Never see one like it before. UK version maybe?

Ive just bought 3 Raleigh lentons! They dont come up for sale too often but amazingly I have found 3 for sale in the past 2 weeks! And I've managed to buy them all for less then £50 each! Amazing

I'm going to try make one decent one out of the 3 then flog the rest of the parts that are left over.

This should keep me busy for a while!

Now it's 3! That's amazing. Interesting project bikes are getting harder to find with each passing year. If it weren't for that ocean, I'd be on my way to your house to talk you into selling me the rusty blue one. Looking forward to seeing pics of your project.

I really don't need another bicycle. But a Raleigh Twenty popped up on craigslist for $100. The guy was dumping stuff from grandma's house and this was buried in the shed. Wife said go for it(?). We met him in the down pouring rain, parking lot at night. This bad picture was the first I saw it in the light. I have since squirted oil/grease everywhere, changed seat post clamp, ordered longer seat post, ordered a 17/32 socket from HomeDepot ($2), and put about 3 miles on it riding around the lake. Been reading this thread for days, it has been enlightening to say the least. Thank you.

I suspect that back in the day, upgrades were offered by the dealerships. Also note that this is a non folding version.

Is it normal to feel and hear the pawls disengage? I got a wheel built with a rigida chrina rim and an 1980 AW and I can feel the disengagement very prominently. Also, the hub seems tobhave sort of eccentric rubbing to the driver when freewheeling, as the pedals want to move forward at a single position of the hub. No shifter installed, as it hasn't arrived yet, but I am testing the hub on flat ground.

Welcome. Congratulations on your Raleigh Twenty! It's beautiful. I bought mine last spring for $60. Only problem was a worn cotter. I've since built new wheels, had it powder coated with new decals. It's fun to ride. I'd do a full overhaul with new grease and ball bearings, shift & brake cables/housing and brake pads. (I hope my unsolicited advise isn't offensive to you) Would love to see some close up pictures. The folks here are a wealth of information. Congratulations!

Raleigh Twenty 20" fender "situation" - solution. I bought SKS 20" fenders for front and back of this bike. Unfortunately they didn't cover the tire, especially in the rear, the way normal full coverage fenders would. Thus every time riding through a puddle my back would have a lovely brown stripe up it, not to mention my rear tail light and Brooks Special saddle.

At first I thought about a leather mud flap, then recalled I had the longboard fender mudflaps from a different project and thought for sure they'd be too wide. So out to the garage I went, after midnight, and sure enough the fit the fender perfectly!

Here are before/after photos. Just rode through a lot of various depth puddles fast and not one drop on me or the rear of the bike. You will notice I removed the stays from the front fender. I had to use VO fender stay attachment pieces since I forgot to have @gugie weld fender eyelets prior to the powder coating. Anyway the "solution" looked horrible. This works just fine and the fender doesn't torque around like it seems it would. Fender line not great but oh well.

This guy has dropped his price $50 in the last week. If this is the bike I think it is, he only paid $120 for it...gonna keep an eye on this. Might be a better fit for Linda than the Sports I'm going to rebuild for her.

I love the fenders. That looks great. What a class job you did on this 20. If the front fender shakes too much over bumps, I suggest using the same style stays you used on the rear wheel and get gugie to weld on tabs that fit on the axle.

@BigChief - yes the front stays, that look just like the back, were on, but with no way to wrap around the axle like the original fender stay, so those VO extenders were on it. It looked so bad. Just bad. I just paid for a powder coat, so if he puts stays on I'd have to have the fork redone. The powder coat place messed up and did not mask the silver "thimbles". I didn't want to make a fuss and just wanted the bike.

Velocivixen, Thank you and I appreciate advice. What you have done with yours is beautiful. My current goal is to do keep mine original and to do no harm. I did spend a couple days deciphering the size of the front axle nuts. Without a proper wrench a flat would be like a canoe without a paddle. I did lube the front bearing by injecting wheel bearing grease in the access hole until it came out the sides. Put a little 30w non-detergent oil in the rear unit. Anyway, I won't do anything until the weather breaks. (except in my head)

By the 80's the quality of the AW hubs were less then perfect but functioning. From your description I would say two things might be going on. One your chain might be too tight. Second would be a possible need to clean and replace the lubricating oil and grease the non drive side bearings.

Does your hub have an oiling hole?
