I had this moment a few years ago, when I realized the person I had just hired had never known a time without the PC

Words like carbon paper, mimoegraph, and even Selectric with built in correction had no meaning to her.

In its day, Carbon Paper was the lightest, strongest paper you could buy. It was much stronger than aluminum foil, and left steel wool in the dust.

What's a carburator?

luker 03-10-10 09:13 PM

art supply stores still carry carbon paper. Vital ingredient to some hyper-realist art works.

Bikedued 03-10-10 09:15 PM

Nah, that's Holley on paper, and just as archaic, unless you drag race:),,,,BD

cudak888 03-10-10 09:16 PM

I know what it is, and what's more...

...I have some of it on standby.

Carbon Paper is so 1900's. You gotta upgrade to Carbon Nanotube Paper.

"It's laterally stiff, yet vertically compliant!"

Bah, thats all marketing hype ;)

Bikedued 03-10-10 09:30 PM

The return for credit books I use at work, still use the carbon paper, the type that makes it's own pressure sensitive copies, without the blackish
blue parts in between.,,,,BD

I won't make the obvious reference to your user ID. Maybe you're a little Norwegian, too.

Try coloring it with a pencil, and call it graphite.

Andrew F 03-10-10 10:10 PM

Sorry BigPolishJimmy.... I tried to help you out but as it turns out you can't fax carbon paper .

that's good to know, I was thinking I probably could use some. I used to hate the stuff for it's intended purpose, but it makes the pressure sensitive paper look pretty pathetic. Of course not having loose carbons floating around stops a lot of credit card fraud.

big chainring 03-10-10 10:35 PM

If I wanted to buy carbon paper I would head to the Stationary Store. Whats this office supply place you speak of?

Definitely. I wouldn't want to buy from one of those newfangled moving stores.

I remember that! Mimeograph they called it. God I loved that smell:)

Can you guys use a larger type face please? My computer--er--typing machine is running low on oil and it's hard to see the back lit display.

Oh, excuse me, a telegraph is coming through... Yes, Mr. Lincoln... you need to reserve a seat--oh, two... yes, my pleasure Mr. President.

Nothing wrong with being a Luddite now and then.

BigPolishJimmy 03-11-10 07:56 AM

hehehe... I got my kids into listening to vinyl records. Then I got to tell them about my friend who told his kids they were sounding like a 'broken record' ...he was met with blank expressions from his children who had never seen vinyl. I've been playing old Bill Cosby albums for them and also the Smothers Brothers. ...'soap, soap, soap, soap' 'hey there what are you singing?" "Just a few bars"

Bikedued 03-11-10 07:59 AM

Wonderfulness, wasn't that one of the Bill Cosby albums, yes I said ALBUM, lol. The two parts that stick in my head are the "Trusty can of 3 in one oil" and "He's about to
jumpinto what? TWELVE DEGREES!" Good times, hehehe.,,,,BD

When I look at it, I don't get any paper. It just shows up on my monitor.

Exquisite Parker collection...

With a Western Electric... Looks about 1956. Nice.

Bianchigirll 03-11-10 11:18 AM

so is carbon paper RARE? I think I have two packs of about 50 sheets each. I just cornered the market I am going to be rich LOL

OH btw for you "youngins" (as Granny would say) carbon paper was a type of paper placed between two documents or blank sheets of paper to make a copy. now since everyone has a computer on there desk you no longer need it. you just sign 4 seperate peices of paper.
