PX or PY-10?

One for the Francophiles:

https://cgi.ebay.com/Prestige-Peugeot...item58868bcb0a

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Prestige Peugeot decal indicative of the PY10?

Is this one from the 80's? I feel like ones in the 70's didn't have fully-chromed stays?

First pic sure looks like the fork was bent by crashing into something.

I know a bit about the PY from 1974 up to 1979, though I think I just found my answer on Miamijim's site:

"PRO-10 1982 only in U.S. Available through 1986 in Europe.
Essentialy a PY-10. Available in the U.S. for 1982 only and characterized by a fully chromed rear triangle and
fully chromed fork."

Could be, though I'm inclined to suspect its an optical illusion. A better photo is needed.

Bikes: 87 Miyata 512

Not sure about Miamijim's accuracy, but assuming it's true then this is also true that a PX10 will have Half chrome forks and stays, "Inoxydable sticker", and 531 sticker should all be present on a PX-10. A U-08 will have none of these features, save the half chrome fork.

No pump pegs on the downtube on a PX10.

A UO-8 will typically have the cheap red Simplex Prestige, cottered cranks, stamped dropouts and other things typical of a cheap bike. A lot of sellers call these PX-10s out of sheer ignorance.

The reason I mentioned the UO-8 is because a lot of UO-8's have been sold as PX10 to the unknowing buyer.

99.9% - if not 100% correct on all matters Peugeot.

This isn't a UO-8, and it's not even a PX-10. Just take my word for it. Look at the lugs, and you'll see that this is a different animal.

I've seen this bike in real life. It was behind a few other bikes, but it looked pretty good, like somebody did use it, but took care of it. It's waaaaay to big for me, though.

Just look at the catalog. There's no mystery.

Yep, PRO-10, as Jim's site indicated.

P.S.: David, the rails came in; thank you very much. I replaced the left one on the PY-10; turned out the aluminum rail had cracked down its entire length.

Dang, like always, these nice Peugeots that come up for auction tend to be 60cm and bigger!
Love the drilled rear droupouts, BTW! Kinda suprised to see such on a French bike.

To me the fork definitely looks bent as does the top head-lug. I don't think that's a photo anomoly.

well... here it looks bent:

here doesn't it

I think the second picture is better to use as a determining factor because the front wheel is straight, unlike in the first picture

A decent 90 degree shot would love it all. Nothing mutually conclusive can come of what the seller and his blue bath mat have provided.

Neither the top head tube or the fork looks bent to me. Your looking at an illusion. The top head tube is in perfect alignment in the photos; and the forks look the way they do due to the angle of the camera, the second photo shows that. If the top head tube was bent then the usually either the top tube or the down tube would also be bent.

+1
I clicked on the link before reading the thread, and as soon as I saw that first pic I knew where the thread was headed. People are way to quick to call "bent fork" based on photo angles, IMO. It happens frequently.

The bikes at 1 angle, the bars are turned to another angle and the picture taker is standing at another angle. IMHO the fork is straight.

The PRO10 is an interesting bike becasue its essentialy a PY10 although it doesnt it say it. We aal the story of Peugeot special workshop that build custom order 'Y' series to spec. The PRO10 could be built to the owners specification a per the cataloge. It wouldnt surprice my if the papaer sticker says 'PY10'

More than likely a French headset with a Swiss BB.
