Chombi, yes, Emery's is still there I've never been there, but they have some good deals for our work bike club. I'd usually remove old stickers like that, but I think it gives this bike a bit of character. The sticker's in good shape too, so I plan on leaving it.
I'd keep the Emery Cyclery sticker too if it were my bike, it does add a sort of period class to the bike. I'm sure many would agree, including Trek themselves!

Do you still hate free bikes?

Beautiful cleanup job.

+1 Terrific clean up job. Welcome to the wonderful world of steel Treks. And this is another example of how good the factory paint jobs were on the older Treks. They almost always clean up nicely.

You know I was looking at the before pics thinking, Man, that is going to clean up REALLY nice. I was right, hehe. I love finding bikes like
that, just a layer of dirt, and no rust. Clean em up, and they look like new.,,,,BD

The 412 I sold a while back looked as good, and as bad before....

I'm steeling these pictures for my screen saver slide show!

I think sickmtbnutcase just tried out the "found it in the trash" story on us before he told it to his wife :-)

Hi BD - Regarding your 412 - How come I never find them like that? The dirty ones I find are not just dirty, they're basket cases - and the cleans ones are usually messed up too!

Dang... that's a hell of a dumpster find.

Those Araya 27 x 1" wheels aren't the lightest in the world, but they're pretty bombproof. I've got a pair on my Univega that are still rail-straight after nearly 30 years. I've owned it for 10+ and have never had 'em trued.

Thanks everyone!!! Really happy with the way she turned out. Didn't require as much attention as the Schwinn I cleaned up for my wife, but it took a good bit of work.

Kurt, yeah, still hate 'em. Hate 'em so much I think I need to find another

wrk101, yeah, the paint was pretty good. There is a tiny little bit of rust near the headtube, but overall it was in great condition.

BD, love the 412! That really turned out nice too! I'd have trouble parting with that bike

Fletch, honest, it was in the trash!! This makes two bikes of mine that were trash. This and my Reliant. My Marathon was going to be had my manager not mentioned to me she was going to toss it.

auchencrow, it better reward me! She'll be my commuter and get plenty of miles, you can count on that!

emarg0ed, don't be jealous! You've got two gorgeous Treks of your own

Fasteryoufool, good to know! Being that it'll get plenty of commuting miles, that's reassuring. I figured they'd be pretty stout just by handling them, but nice to hear your confirmation. Thanks!
