Intro and a bike...
Been lurking for a couple days and I just want to know:
Why didn't someone tell me about this place earlier??? AWESOME.
Guess I'll be hanging out in here more often!
Too bad I didn't check this place out sooner... this bike I'm working on would have been awesome for Velo-Cheapo:
About 6 months ago a coworker told me she had "an old 10 speed" that her neighbor had given her and wanted to get rid of it... she offered to give it to me. Well, she showed up with it and had decided she wanted money... I almost just told her no, but I offered her $20 and she took it.
The bike is a Miyata 310 and I didn't really take a very good look at it at the time.
This past weekend I cleaned it up and put new tires on it... The frame is beautiful... black with gold trim along the edges of the lugs. 27" alloy wheels. The only thing I've found that really needs to be replaced is the lower bearing race on the headset is pitted BAD, and it needs bar tape.
as soon as I get the part (Tomorrow, the shop I'm going to is closed Mondays) and get it put back together I'll post up some pics.
It's going to be a great looking bike, and if it rides better than the Miyata 110 I used to have then it will be an AWESOME bike for around $50 total.
Making me wish I still had some of my other classic bikes I've had over the past few years. Uh-oh... my girlfriend is in trouble... The apartment could very well be overrun with bikes soon!

Welcome bmclaughlin !
- Sounds like you already have been bitten by the bug and have come to the right place.
(for indulgence - not a cure!)
- and yes, you'll be stacking them up in the Living room before you know it !
Looking forward to pictures !

Ok... it still needs a lot of cleaning, but this is what I have... I'm guessing it's a 1981 Miyata 310 with the freewheel upgraded to a 6 speed:

Lots of cleaning to do. Needs tape and a new stem (reach is WAY too short!!!! Who the heck would use THAT stem, anyway??? *boggles*)
Took it out for a spin... everything works fine on it. Still need to pull apart the hubs and re-grease them... but they spin pretty nice.
