Hi,
This is my first post to the forum, been lurking for a while and I just want to say that this is a great place to learn about all aspects of cycling so thanks to all the participants.
I'm considering buying this Colnago frame for a period correct build, paint's pretty rough but othgerwise seems like a nice frame for the price (10,500 yen). It's an online auction from Japan. (If your ever in Western Tokyo I can clue you into some fantastic rides)
The seller isn't sure of the model but thinks it's an 84 Super. The pictures aren't that clear but I think he might be right. I've done some research here and other places, it seems with this era Colnago it's hard to be sure.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.
Pat.

Yes I've been thinking the same thing. Instead of replacing the decals I might etch them into the crome? If I did that though I might go for modern components.

I see that it has chrome headlugs and crimped tubing. Is the tubing Gilco? If it is, this might actually be a Master, or Masterpiu, which is a screaming deal for 117.
See Catalog here for info:
Master:

Masterpiu

Take this info with a grain of salt, as Colnago models are inconsistent at the best of times.

That doesn't look like Gilco to me - more like the crimped tubing used for the Nuovo or Essa Mexico models.

Hello!
defenately not any of the master variations.
master tubing is shown here
https://www.pinkbike.com/photo/2978292
hard to see from the crappy pictures, but if theres more than one crimp on the top tube i would recall that cant be super or mexico either.
Essamexico is probably the right answer.

My opinion is that these are all wort saving and should be properly repainted, everything else should be a crime!

Thanks for the input,
I didn't buy it the auction went crazy high in the last few seconds I ended up with a NOS Pinarello. Still collecting all the parts before I begin building it up. I also picked up a NOS Olmo with columbus tubes for the wife, could have bought a lightly used Derosa SL for the same money but the Olmo is pink so there was no argueing.
These will be my first ever builds so I guess I'll be hitting you guys up for advice so I don't mangle anything.
