There was just a frame set on the Ebays of one of the bikes that I would have totally loved- it was my size- it was kind of "used" but the guy just wanted way too much for it-

I'm part of the "Curly Hetchins" and "Chrome Paramount" element. Although I'd go for an Orange or Yellow Paramount just as easily as a Chrome one.

I think the Schwinn Cycletruck ought to rank right up there. The ones you normally see aren't that expensive, but they are either old and beat-up, or old and beat up and have been restored. I'd be curious to see what a really pristine original example would go for, though.

I just want to have my old bike back! I had a down tube replaced (but not repainted) over two decades ago and I have finally been inspired to restore the bike. It will once again be a LOOK Equipe 753 Reynolds.

I could dig up a couple of bikes in my memory that left such an impression that I would be ery happy if I could ever get one.
1) Technobull show(?) race bike featured in a bicycle magazine in the 80's (Bicycling??) I remember being so impressed with the then super high tech features it had. All I rmember now is I think it had CF radisl spoked wheels, maybe an Edco gruppo and metallic gery/blue paint.
2) Columbine bike, again featured in a magazine in the 80's. I just remember the glorious lugwork on it and the nice IIRC, red and white paint job.
3) Masi Volumetrica, with the oversized, thin guaged Colombus(?) tubing. A dream bike I encountered as a frameset hanging from a bike shop wall in West Milwaukee ("Patio Bike Shop"} in my 80's college days. I ended up literally carressing and drooling over the then super innovative steel oversized tubed frame in front of the salesperson. Nice "new think" for the age old material...I thought. Still would like to eventually have one of those white painted beauties. The latest component "stash" purchase that should be delivered this week might finally be the trigger that I had been waiting for to get one together. Just have to find a good frame this year. Hopefully in close to mint condition, cause nothing else will suffice.

If we're considering earlier time periods (like 30's onward), would need to consider adding Caminargent, Galmozzi, Barra and Alex Singer to the list.
If we're limiting to that 1980's time period suggested by the OP; Confente, DeRosa, Masi and Colnago Master seem to come with some of the largest price tags. Notice a trend here?
For you Hetchins lusters... since I've had one, I seem not to get so excited about acquiring "new" bikes. The itch hasn't gone away completely, but I've definitely had a reduction in the urge to "pull the trigger". May, or may not be a causal relationship, but worth considering.

If we're talking late 80s and early 90s...the most desired bike among riders I knew was a Merlin Titanium. I can't think of anyone I rode with who wouldn't have traded in their De Rosa for a Merlin Ti without thinking twice.

A read bottecchia with a lot of chrome! Almost got one once but the seller sold it to someone else just when I was going to pay! My (bike-)life's biggest dissapointment.

A pursuit-frame wouldn't be wrong either... I do have one Concorde with a mish-mash of campaglnolo and shimano-parts, a campa front wheel but a ordinare rear but it's way too big and just a flipper. :/
