I Stalked A SuperCourse

Is it wrong to stalk a dilapidated old Raleigh Super Course, wait for it's owner to approach, buy it and give him a ride home 20 miles out of your way?

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's/60's road bikes.

If it works, why not?

No way is it wrong. How can it be wrong if it turned out so right.
Nice score.

I just mean the obsessive part. I was late to dinner tonight because I went out of my way to pick up some tires and a new saddle.

Nice score Rockhound. Clean her up and take some photos for us!

I have to admit I felt a little bit guilty after buying this guys transportation home.............however, the cones in both wheels are extremely loose, BB is loose, seatpost has no binder bolt and the front brake was rubbing hard. The owner said he paid $15 for it and had just replaced the front tube. When I was driving him home he took a key off his keyring and handed it to me.......said it was the key for the lock. He did seem delighted to get rid of the old bike and it's many issues. It is my size, the paint is in terrible shape but with a good scrubbing and some personal touches it should make for a great "beater" bike.

Bikes: '74 Raleigh LTD-3, '76 Motobecane Grand Jubile, '83 Fuji TSIII (customized commuter), '10 Mercier Kilo WT (fixed obsession), '83 Bianchi Alloro, '92 Bridgestone MB-1 (project), '83 Specialized Expedition (project), '79 Peugeot UO-8 (sold)

This belongs under a "You might be a C&V'er if " thread... It sounds like the punch line to a joke.

Bikes: 1977 Bridgestone Kabuki Super Speed; 1979 Raleigh Professional; 1983 Raleigh Rapide mixte; 1974 Peugeot UO-8; 1993 Univega Activa Trail; 1972 Raleigh Sports; 1967 Phillips; 1981 Schwinn World Tourist; 1976 Schwinn LeTour mixte; 1964 Western Flyer

Not wrong at all. I stalked my Fuji for weeks before finally seeing the owner outside his house and having an opportunity to talk with him.

Haha, I'd be worried about how the dude would react. Chance is you caught him off guard, which might be good for negotiations. But then you gave him 20 miles to mull it over. Which sounds like quite the commute given the described state of the bike.

Wonder how the 600EX rear dérailleur made it on there.

There's a vagrant here in Toronto who rides a nice old Bianchi Campione D'Italia in the awesome Electric Rose colour but, since it ain't my size, I haven't bugged him about it.

After thinking about it, you aren't the first BFer that I have heard of doing this. I won't out him, but I would do it for the right keeper.

Bikes: '77 Centurion "Pro Tour"; '67 Carlton "The Flyer"; 1984 Ross MTB (stored at parents' house)

I'd be more than a little bit worried that he'd murder me in the car.
