Sanding painted rims

I've got a pair of late 1980's painted Campy rims. Does anyone know how much sanding I can do and stay in the safe zone? Braking is mediocre at best......

Painted rims? Sanding?

Have you thought of trying out some Kool-Stop brake pads?

Are you talking about rattle can painted rims? If the rims are alloy (and probably are), you are better off using a chemical remover (and prey they are not anodized).

Sorry, I wasn't clear. They're the Omega hardox rims. I guess it's anodizing, but it's very thick, and the brakes do not grab very well. I'll try some more aggressive pads.

Anodized rims usually grab very well. Don't do anything to them. Change your pads. Put Kool-Stops on. If you have Campag holders, just get the Kool Stop Model C's.
