Round 2 You don't ask why a thread was deleted. Doing so will always result in the second thread becoming a carbon copy of the first. -Kurt |
So I should look out for "Rivendell thread...Where is it? thread... Where is it?"? =D It's a bit creepy that it's just deleted... I just read the Locksmith thread by daddio and that seemed worse.

this thread is like a wigwam and a tee pee

Here is your final exam question. It will count for 100% of your grade. Remember to keep your eyes on your own paper. 3 points extra credit if your answer is in Sanskrit, Gaelic or Esperantu. 2 more extra credit points for correctly diagramming the question.
If GP scattered fairy dust on John Forester's backside while riding on a bike path and not wearing a helmet, and no one was there to insist that nobody but nobody in America needs a car under any circumstances, rant that Lance Armstrong was/is a doper and the Antichrist, or ask pcad anythng, would a tree falling in a forest sound like botto breaking wind in the general direction of Lucien Juy (whose mother was a hamster and whose father smelled of elderberries) holding a Simplex derailleur? |

Ironically enough, the actual translation of that Sanskrit text is as follows, which is rather appropriate for this thread: All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood. -Kurt |

John, I bet you can even pronounce the name of the erupting volcano in Iceland! Eyjafjallajokull Here is the BBC Pronunciation Unit's guide on how to saw the glacier's name. Eyjafjallajökull (or Eyafallajökull) is pronounced AY-uh-fyat-luh-YOE-kuutl (-uh) , that is -ay as in day, -fy as in few, -oe as in French coeur, -uu as in boot, the -tl as in atlas. The (-uh) is "a" as in ago. Stressed syllables are in capital letters. I do, however, recommend wearing a helmet while riding in Iceland. Falling pumice rock can really hurt the old noggin, which could possibly lead to cognitive impairment. |
Oh god, you brought botto to C&V.
botto, do you run searches every few hours for your name in new threads? Really? |

How does someone find the time to place over 34,000 posts in four short years? That's on the order of 22 posts per day, every day, or 150 posts per week! When does Botto find time to ride a bike?
|
Maybe Botto is just a name, that represents 30 people working shifts around the clock. Maybe time moves slower for him and he is able to accomplish more than an average person.
|
For some reason, every time I see "botto" I think "blotto"
|
I have no idea who that person is, but the name makes me think of the awful Styx song...and for that, I already support a permanent ban.
If I have to suffer, so do the rest of you: Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto |
and the point of THIS thread is???

There has to be a point?

I thought in C&V we were allowed to ramble on without a destination in mind
|
Minus.

I agree, the moderation on this forum is great. They seem let things develop to a point and usually give a gentle reminder when things heat up.

Now, jump over to Rivendell bikes and the creator, the infamous GP. Is he really the good wizard encouraging the hobbits (C&V aficionados) to destroy the evil ring (i.e. unobtanium (anyone notice how Avatar stole our word for CF and Titanium?) frames)? Yet GP spaces his bikes to modern specifications, promotes unsafe helmet practices, and tries to tell those of us who like to ride in spandex, we are evil. His opinions come across as a sort of The Really Annoying Bike Gospel According of Grant. So we C&Vers find ourselves in a predicament. We like what GP does with his bikes and products, we just don't like being told what to do, i.e. helmets are not necessary, spandex is evil, and only Pine Tar soap should be used for cleaning. This is why long pointless discussions about Rivendell and GP are so much fun. It's where mythical epic fiction--- and truth is stranger than fiction--- nicely collide! |

While it's tempting to pile on GP for all his wacky ideas ...... if we look in the mirror . . . . we all have ideas considered wacky by someone. Even the thought of this discussion about one person the way it's done here would be considered psychotic by those outside of the cycling world.
We say it's fun to make fun of him/them, but it's oozing with sacarsm, jealousy and discontentment. I don't like many of Rivendell's ideas and business practices , but it's my problem. I have a choice to buy anything from them, or even give them another consideration in thought. |

DISCLAIMER: Just because I say GP (or anyone else) is irritating does not mean that I believe that I am not irritating or anything - I happily dwell in a glass house with an expansive peanut gallery. Or, perhaps were I a Japanese guy with limited command of english: To those who respectfully disagree I cordially extend my offer To them the soothing caress Of a welcoming Canadian Club |
