Ross Apollo...
I went to the bike swap at the www.NEmusclebikes.com museum this weekend and walked away with a few new project rides. I bought a 1984 Mongoose Californian (my third) for $20. I also bought a Ross Apollo Racer (coaster brake model) and a Ross Apollo 3-spd parts bike for cheap money too.
Does anyone have a Ross Apollo? If so, what year and what components are on it? I'm going to restore these (although the Racer just needs to be cleaned/lubed) and would love to find the period correct parts, especiallly the 3-spd shift handle for the top tube.
Thanks as always.

i took a trade-in on a bike i had for sale today.
it says apollo swinger on it. the headbadge reads
penneys. i guess ross must of made it for the
jcpenney stores. i'd like to find out more about
these bikes myself.

yes its a muscle bike. i spent all day today putting
parts on it. all i got originaly was frame/forks. it is black,
i dug thru my pile of bikes, & ended up putting black
skyway tuff wheel II rims on it, old set of apehangers
covered w/ green bar tape, a set of cranks w/ a solid sprocket
(all black). i put a 2.125 bw street knobby out back, 1.75 bw runner up front.
black banana. i basically built a "rat-bike" out of it. i enjoy
building bikes, i work on something everyday @ least 8 hrs.
daily while my wife is @ work.

As far as an "Apollo Swinger" I have no idea but the Ross Apollo is what I have. They were never really considered "the" bike as the Schwinn Stingray ruled the earth back in the day- still doea in musclebike land.
That being said, the Ross was more of an East Coast thing and much less expensive than the Stingray.
Can you post a picture?

well here in the southeast us boy's with the huffys
ruled the neighborhood streets. maybe it was due to
the fact ; huffy was made about 40 miles from where
i grew up. i can e-mail you the pictures i shot of the
penneys bike if you'd like to see it. i also will be finishing
my 1967 huffy rail tonight/tomorrow, its not done "stock"
as for the most part i usually don't like the" stock look".
i've been doing-up bikes for about 30 years. i do them
"MY WAY" . i'd like to see some photos of your muscle
bikes. you can e-mail them to me, if you'de like.

Shoot me some e-mail pics then. I will do the same when I actually pick up my Apollo's...they're "hiding" in a friends garage until the cover of darkness when I can sneak them into the house. Hehehehehe!
I should be grabbing them in the next few days though. I might have tracked down some parts bikes for the Apollo's as well. Just need to arrange a time to meet with the dude to see if the has what I need.
