Hi,

I juste bought this old CCM bike, and I was wondering wich model and wich year it was.
I did some research on the internet, and it look like a CCM 1924, but I'm not sure, and I don't know where to find the serial number...
I'm planning on restaure it, but I'have no experience with antique bikes, so I'll maybe need a few tips.
Everything seems to be original, except the painting, but I think I can find the originial colour, under the dirty black latex painting. The pedals are maybe not original too (plastic pedals on a bike that old seems bizarre to me...). I also know the wheels are 28''.
I also want to know how much it worth ?
If it doesn't worth a lot, I'll maybe do another paint, to get a "cleaner" bike, but if it is a valubale collection bike, I don't what to do things wrong, so maybe you guys can tell me if I have to be carefull with some things.

It could be tricky to figure the year out without the serial number cause the frames really didnt change a whole lot. The serial number is probably on the non drive side of the seat tube near the top, but it could also be down near the crank on the seat tube (again non-drive side, or the non drive side rear drop out). Its certainly not any newer than 1965, but I dont suspect its a 20s bike going by the crank, and the handlebars if they are original. Pedals look to be correct, the saddle probably isnt.

Since it doesnt have original paint I wouldnt value it too high. CCMs arent super collectible or anything, I used to sorta collect em and hunt them and most of the ones I aquired I did so for free, or a few bucks.

Pierre, the serial number is usually on the lugs under the seat. It may be as early as the 1930's...if so it may also have the early 1926 patent rear hub. Pedals are not original.

As mentioned, the CCM frames rarely changed over the years. The Rambler model often had the humped top tube. Here's a 1941 example...looks like yours.

You might want to try and pry a CCM "Tour du Canada", the original one from the seventies, not the dept store copy offered in the eighties. Those old Tour du Canada road bikes are pretty darn collectible, these days - if you can find one. Anyway, that is an opinion...

Look at your rear hub. If it is a Hercules and has the part number or serial number etched into it by hand, then the bike is pre-1935. If the information on the hub is stamped, then it is post 1935.

I have run across quite a few old CCM roadsters and balloon tire bicycles over the years. Many have had the model name indicated on the head badge. Redbird, Massey, Cleveland are a few of the name that come to mind. Have a look at your head badge and see if any info presents itself.

It must be the season. I picked up this 1940 roadster today. It has a 1950 AB 3 speed hub that actually slows you down. Every other example I've ridden has only pretended to include a brake. It also has Gibson pedals albeit well worn. Burgandy repaint but the rear rim shows the original maroon. The rack is correct too.

I looked at the rear hub, and I found a date ! 1937, and the information is stamped, so it match wath randyjawa was saying.
Anyway, thanks to everybody for your help, the bike gonna be ready soon, I'll post some pictures when is gonna be finish.
