Seen In Passing
Post photos of bikes you like while out and about.
Today, while bumming with Mrs. Leftthread, I saw this 1987 Schwinn Cimarron: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...s/cimarron.jpg |
I saw this very tasty Gran Sport outside of LBS today.

No like - at least the rear d hanger was still on it.

Thanks for bumping this thread Leftthread, I was searching for it to no avail...
I spotted this crusty-looking bike chained up at the beach and could tell from a distance that it was worth a closer look. Turned out to be a weathered International with its Campy running gear intact, and a healthy coat of surface rust ruining the paint (though the chrome looked salvageable.) We were hanging out near the park where it was locked up, and I kept my eye out for the owner, but nobody came to unlock it. http://lh4.ggpht.com/_TIeBxBH6dXI/TD...ational_01.jpg http://lh5.ggpht.com/_TIeBxBH6dXI/TD...ational_02.jpg These Schwinns don't really do anything for me, but I found them at an out-of-the-way antique shop near Cocoa Beach, and they were pretty picturesque. http://lh4.ggpht.com/_TIeBxBH6dXI/TD...inn_lineup.jpg Spotted this Sprint on the way into a Latin bodega, and something about the bars and saddle suggested that I'd better be swift about it. Snapped two pics while walking past, then noticed the mother and her young daughters in in the second frame  Deleted that one quickly and hoped nobody saw the incident and got the wrong idea... http://lh3.ggpht.com/_TIeBxBH6dXI/TD...ing_sprint.jpg |
OK, I didn't really like these, but I did take the time for a picture. This was along the Illinois Prairie Path, at a train station. Kind of sad that the entire rack was abandoned bikes. I guess the two on the far right might be ride-able.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4074/...e101419d_b.jpg Directly opposite that rack were some nice bike lockers. I have a feeling the bikes inside these were a little nicer. The Prologue was my ride for the day: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4078/...e2a34124_b.jpg |

It looks like they could use some cable cutters. It's still a nice looking bike though.

This Bianchi is ridden by an employee of the local Barnes and Noble. He rides it to work year round.

Friends visiting the shop on an '85 Raleigh USA Team Replica (555RSL) and a very late-'88 Serotta Nova Special X (Columbus):

http://www.jaysmarine.com/andyandmike_3.jpg -Kurt This Palo Alto was locked up on my street for a week or so. I chased the owner down and tried to buy it but he wasn't interested. http://i733.photobucket.com/albums/w...a/100_0411.jpg |
That looks like the Serotta that was on Craigslist a few weeks ago for a very reasonable price. It sounded a bit like the seller didn't know much about it... Good thing it wasn't my size :)

That Serotta is nice! Thanks for sharing the pic Kurt.

Saw this somewhat rare (to me anyway) Dale Brown (CRlistmeister) track bike at Hearn's Cyclery in Asheville a few weeks ago:

I saw this 70's Raleigh Sprite outside the LGS today. Behind it was a Murray (IIRC).

Spotted a bike I have never seen before, either in person or online. Raleigh model name: 531 Race? Kind of strange decals/paint scheme and looks to be 80's maybe? Suntour Sprint IIRC. I liked it.
Sorry for crappy pic, all I had was my phone. http://i733.photobucket.com/albums/w...a/PIC-0293.jpg |
A couple old Schwinns
A Jaguar at the LBS for some work http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...8101731-00.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...8101731-01.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...8101737-00.jpg Another old Schwinn locked up at a high school. I couldn't make out the model http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...5091043-00.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...5091043-01.jpg |
I saw this lightly updated Nishiki outside of a local thrift store. I've not seen Nishiki decals with this font before.

Repainted. Those are home-spun Nishiki decals.

We attended an Art Hop hosted by local stores last night and I saw many bikes and riders there. Most were cheap MTBs but I thought these two were interesting.
An old Schwinn Racer that was scratched up but solid. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...1001101851.jpg The other was this tastefully done Raleigh Mixte with a number of Velo Orange parts on it. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...1001101857.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...001101857a.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...1001101859.jpg |
A few shots from a local race this summer that I worked at:
Some C&V. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4154/...d76b6661_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4091/...fbf65cfd_o.jpg and the new team bikes that were stacked like driftwood in some cases: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4146/...0e534a6a_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4109/...8dbb919a_o.jpg I've never seen so many De Rosas, Pinarellos, and Colnagos actually used on a race course as that weekend. I, of course, loved it! |
Working bikes seen in Cremona, Italy:

I'm currently on travel in Frankfurt, and bikes are everywhere. More vintage than classic, but lots of models I've not seen before. I plan to post some photos in a new thread when I get back stateside, but in the meantime here's a teaser.

Virtually seen in passing... I'm not sure I could walk away without waiting for the owner if I really saw that. Although it is ridiculous enough to just be bait. That front cantilever, ohhhh. |
Tugrul,
It achieves a shorter wheelbase for quick urban riding! I don't know which I like more, the saddle or the bottle cage. :innocent: |
I'm back in Frankfurt, and this beauty caught my eye. Anyone recognize the make/model? It has nicely shaped lugs and an "S" on the seatlug. Cable guide on head tube suggests fairly recent construction. The owner parked it in front of a police station and seems to have tried to mask its identity (though still needs an education on proper locking technique).

Literally passing this girl on a Bianchi while riding near Stanley Park in Vancouver, B.C. trying to aim the camera quickly.

One of these days, I'll make a photo essay of bikes parked in Manhattan. It's amazing. It's starting to look like a European city. So heartwarming!
There are old bikes in old shape. There are old bikes in renovated shape. There are bikes that have been very personalized. And so on. |
Oh, I just found these pictures I shot at my hometown train station in the summer of 2009.
Here is the whole collection. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-A...2/IMG_3256.JPG |
