This sale is limited to serious collectors. This is 51cm c-c, Raleigh SPD Ilkeston track bike by O’Donovan. Original owner was a World Cycling Champion.
1) Local pick-up only.
2) Cash & Carry (receipt & provenance provided).
3) Price: $4000.00
4) Viewing fee: $60.00 cash, refunded upon purchase.
Lookers, lowballers, scammers, pic collectors, crooks, etc. don’t even bother to e-mail. Since it is a local sale, everything will be answered in-person and you can look at the bike at the meeting after the payment of the fee for my time. Sorry, but this is a business transaction and not a social networking time.

And, the inevitable retort post. Bad words are used.

Well, if it's any solace, his forks are probably bent. But he did take a picture in front of a white garage door...

Some people seem to think their time is worth a lot of money. Then again, those people are idiots, generally (or lawyers).
How does the refund work? Do you pay him $3,940? Or do you pay him the $4,000 and then he gives you the $60 back?
Whatever. I doubt it'll sell, just another jerk with internet access and a bit too much imagined self-importance.

Yesterday I spent an hour showing a guy intermodal shipping containers I have listed on CL. After 45 mins of taking photos and kicking the 2500 lbs metal box in the rain (and I broke a couple of fingers earlier yesterday, so I wasn't feeling too fun) he asked me if he could give me 10% and hold it for him for a month. He then thought for that price (cheap) he should see what I paid for it and we should go somewhere to negotiate (but he was afraid to go INSIDE the container LOL) . He also wanted a discount for having to move the container.

I love how it's a "Raleigh SPD Ilkeston track bike ... " - dude can't even tell his Special Bicycle Developments products from his Shimano clip-in pedals.

Crooks shouldn't bother to email, presumably since, you know, he's already connected to them via the Crook Forum.

OK, so how much should I charge to see the 78 Raleigh Grand Prix I'm going to flip. Based on the value of the GP vs the $4000 he wants for that thing, I calculate $1.50. Of course I'll deduct the $1.50 from the selling price if the viewer buys the bike and of course I'll put in the phrase, "No Low-ballers".
So whada'ya think?

I wonder what happens to lowballers? Does he actually have some consequences planned for anyone who sends a low-ball offer?

Well he has covered all of his bases by stating "serious collectors only" and with the usual "no scammers, etc..." so we really have no recourse but to buy it or move on.
When a CL poster's conditions are clearly written, we just have to accept his terms. That's how the internets work.
Man, I was just looking for one flaw in his ad so that I could become indignant!

Chicago is full of funny bikes for sale. I think I'd go this route and save $3300.
