first bianchi!! need help on year..

** Updated with finished product!**

Hey everyone.

I picked up this frame and fork locally (canada), i'm quite excited since bianchi in general up here is quite rare. I threw a spare set of wheels and crank on it that i had laying around, but i would really like to build back up to original condition. Through the searching i've done i've narrowed the year down to what i believe to be 1990. What kind of componentry would i typically find on a bike like this? I'm unsure what kind of gear set to put on as well as brakes and other pieces of that era.

thank you for your time!!

Almost a year later and its finally done!! I couldnt find any 8 speed chorus or record but I did stumble upon some 9 speed. I hope its not too much of a sin to be a bit off.

UH UM WOW I think you may really have something there. does the paint on the stays look original? is the Bianchi logo on the headtube engraved or 'rolled' into the tube?

that looks like a '88/'89ish Bianchi thought be an X4 which was built to commerate the '86 World Championship victory of Moreno Argentin. there was only one Bianchi ever cataloged in that color and it was an '88 Trofeo but only had a Formula2 frame.

this is a very nice frame and deserve the very best. this should be built with Corse Record components or at the very least Chorus. I can't wait to see this all cleaned and waxed waiting to be built.

there is a thread here somewhere about X4s but I can't find it right now.

AH HA! here it is https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ve-Bianchi-X-4!!!

bianchigirll: thank you for the quick reply! the paint looks untouched, however looks a bit different from the pictures in the link you posted. the logo is a decal, and the paint on the rear stays appears to be a bit different as well.

OK well you still have a fabulous SLX frame perhaps repainted to look like the infamous "Argentin X-4" it will still be a great ridinf bike.

Holy cow... this is a really nice one.

8sp Record or Chorus (or a mix) will look really great on it and you would love the way it runs, and the frame diserves nothing less (maybe 8sp STI DA, but the Chorus/Record will run better). Be ready to open your wallet wide

Great pickup!

indeed, thanks. happy and sad at the same time...

I looked through all the catalogs I could find, and 1990 was the only catalog that showed the black painted chain stays although still seems a bit off.

Whoa, nice! I am super jealous! Did you end up painting the forks? Was the chrome not salvagable?

I painted it black. The fork was a replacement which was painted a dull silver originally.

Monoplanars.... even the name sounds like something from outer space. Great feat of industrial design, the sidepull brake in it's ultimate evolution. A worthy end for a long and race-proven concept.

Ah, I see! I couldn't tell if it was just worn chrome or not.

Looks very sharp with all the black and I am such a celeste sucker.
