Tire options for '88 Schwinn Premis w/ Weinmann 9013 wheels

I got my first flat and figured I should take this opportunity to get some better tires as the ones that are on the bike have a little tire rot going on and aren't very ideal for my commuting.

The wheels and tires I have are original to the bike - Weinmann 9013 - 622/700 c and 700x23c Schwinn Pro Circuits, respectively. I'd like to get some larger tires that would be better for commuting - how large can I go on these wheels?

Would it make more sense for me to look into getting some new (used) wheels? The front was trued when I bought the bike a couple weeks ago and is already out of true. I don't know if that's a result of the wheels just being worn out, skinny tires and harsh roads, the flat, or a combination of it all.

700 x 25 should fit but I don;t think wheels are going to be your problem If I remember correctly there is not a lot of room between the top of the fork and tire and that will be a problem. You might get 28s on but you are going to have to try. I had Continental 23 on mine but every tire manufacturer makes them a bit different. Roger

I wouldn't give up on the wheels yet. If you have confidence in the shop that did the work, take them back. Something doesn't seem right with their work.

+1 This is a skinny tire bike, doubtful it has very much room for much wider tires.
