What Free Wheel remover to use on an '83 Le Tour?

I just spent $20 on another exotic FW remover, and then I happen upon a deal I could not refuse for an ‘83 Schwinn Le Tour.

- And guess what?

It takes some sort of exotic freewheel remover as well – one I do not already have - in spite of the fact that I thought I already had all the removers in creation and it came Shimano Altus equipped.

There is an outer lock ring that unscrews with a spanner (with the markings on it) and deeper down in the recess, there are splines for some sort of FW remover, that measures about 30mm across.

- Can anyone tell me what tool will I need to remove this? - Or do I need to seek out a bike shop operating from ’38 to remove a FW from ’83?

Your advice is much appreciated.

The outer ring is a chain guard. I have the FW tool here in A2 if you want to drive out. Mine's made by Bicycle Research.

A Park FR-4 should do the trick.

The Park FR4 is for the regular French atom freewheel. What you have there is a Maillard French Freewheel used on Schwinns. You need this freewheel tool from Bike tools:

How do I know? I just had to get one for the Schwinn Le tours (as In more than one)I have.

I have made it a point to collect as many different freewheel tools as humanly possible.........I have somewhere between 15 and 20 as some are very similar yet seem to have slight variances that can make all the difference in the world. Every now and then you can find them sold in lots on fleabay.

Thank you ALL for you input –

Old Fat Guy – I did not know it was a Maillard – I was expecting a Shimano or at worst a Regina, and the chain guard concept is new to me too.
- And thank you too for the offer to use yours, but with my trucks MPG, it is much better economically to just buy one.

Michael Angelo – that Bike Tool website is dynamic. Of course, it really helps to know what I’m looking for, so thanks for that too!

Rockhound – I’ve gradually collected quite a few, but not as many as you. I really only buy tools as I need them, but it seems that ultimately I will need everything to service all the flips that come my way.

I am having the same problem with the freewheel. Is this the right tool to take care of the freewheel.

To remove a '73 or later Schwinn Model F2 or F3 having the larger 30mm/24-spline hole you can use a United Maillard or a Bicycle Research CT-3 removal tool.
