Darn 7400 FD!
I have 8 speed 7400 dura ace sti on my Daccordi. i cant seem to shift into the large chainring (52). when i have the bike on the stand it does it very well from all points. when i take the bike out of my apartment down 2 flights of stairs and on the road NOTHING!!!
i can SOMETIMES shift it into the large chainring when i pedal as soft as possible. But who rides like that?
Oh great C&V what can i do?

Make sure it was "zeroed out" when you ran the cable. Happens all the time with the 8-sp STI's, because you can insert and route the cable when it's not "zeroed out." This often causes considerable consternation at a later date.
Zeroing out the cable, then good tension, on an FD adjusted before the cable and chain were mounted, will work nearly every time.

In the "slackest" gear (small chainring, smallest cog), check cable tension. If it is too slack, either adjust the cable tension ferrule if there is one (mine is at the downtube shifter mount), or pull the cable tighter at the derailleur.

This will take you 5 minutes to accomplish. Don't bother taking it to a shop. Like others have said, shift into the smallest chainring all the way. Loosen the shifter cable at the front derailleur and pull it tight. Tighten the bolt to hold the cable in place.

BIG ONES!
took it to the LBS didnt cost anything i go there all the time.
They fixed it kinda of......... shifts to the large chain ring but real slow and real clunky and loud. they told me that i should look into getting a new chainring because mine has no "pickups". Seems kinda strange to me. ill try to pull the cable at the FD before i spend any money i guess
