Suntour Micro-Lite freewheel

Just picked up a 13-23 6 spd Suntour Micro-Lite freewheel from an lbs. Anyone ever use these - it's amazingly light. I'll have to weigh it but I suspect it's even lighter than my Regina Super Leggera lightweight freewheel.

I believe it uses aluminum cogs, pretty much a race-only part that will wear out in very quickly with actual use.

Aluminum cogs. They will wear quickly if you use it as your regular freewheel. But, they are dang cool though!

Used to race on them in the 80's. Cogs wear very, very, quickly....

TT/criterium cogs.

At the time, you rode a few criteriums, then pretty much tossed your tubulars and the cogs.
The tubulars would get out of true, and then truing them would get them out of round.
The cogs would be very light, but the 2-3 main cogs you used would be ground down pretty well.

I don't know that I'll use it - they're still pretty cool and have hardly any wear on them. Worth the $10 I guess. I could always use it as an emergency if needed. Might just put it in the display case.

Bikes: Yes

That should fetch some nice $$$ on eBay. If you're not going to TT or show your classic, I'd flip it.

Bikes: 1986 Alan Record Carbonio, 1985 Vitus Plus Carbone 7, 1984 Peugeot PSV, 1972 Line Seeker, 1986(est.) Medici Aerodynamic (Project), 1985(est.) Peugeot PY10FC

NOS Maillard 700 "Dural" freewheels now bring in about $200 at eBay.
I should have bought them earlier this year when a few went for about half of that!
I need one to do a full classic/post "drillium" era, "weenie" themed build-up hopefully this year........But is has to French!

Yeah, be careful with that. I found a tool that fit the two big slots, got it off but gouged the aluminum. Couldn't believe how light it was.

Anti seize is your friend. To similar metals like aluminum like to "Stick" together.
