I've never drawn that much attention in a thrift shop...
I had made plans to go to the GW today to pick up Pendleton shirt on dollar color. I found the shirt, then walked towards the bikes and saw something green. Started walking a little faster, saw the Super Course script on the TT and started smiling that big smile when you find something. Of course my wife had just started to look for herself, so I'm walking around the store with the bike. One guy walks by and I notice him kinda looking at the bike. I keep walking and another guy stops me and starts telling me how great of bike it is and how he traded his in the '70s for a U-08. Then the first guy comes over and starts looking at it and asks how much they had it priced for. Finally I'm in line to checkout and another guy walks in the store, see's the bike and starts looking at it. I was tempted to try to flip it right there in line.
Anyways, here it is:
Serial # 0021555 on left dropout
Aren't these the '73 lugs though?

Oooh, aaaah, I mean, um, yeah you done good... (ahem, excuse me) I MEAN yes indeed, you have done well.
Those are Capella lugs... probably left over from the late 50's; in the early 70's it seems someone at the Carlton factory decided there was no point hanging on to them any longer, so they made a bunch of Super Courses and Internationals with those lugs. Much nicer, in my humble opinion, than those boring Nervex ones you usually see on these and all those boring PX10's and Paramounts and whatnot.

The finishing is not the best on the lugs, the points aren't very sharp and there are some file marks. The '71 Grand Sports I found a couple of weeks ago is finished nicer. I guess the guys on the line weren't too happy about the change in lugs.
Now I have to decide which to build up. The GS has my preferred TT length, but needs a technomic stem to get the bars where I want them. This SC is a bit big, but I threw a flipped Wald bar on and it felt soo right.

Yup, '73. The next year it became the Super Course MK II with a cotterless crankset, different lugs, different paint scheme.

Nice find. A couple years ago I found a small, sharp looking, $18.99 Bianchi adorned with Shimano 600 parts at a thrift store near where my Mom lives, paid for it and had them hold it while I went to see her and take her (and her wheelchair) out to lunch. When I returned to the thrift a couple hours later I learned from a cashier that a few customers inquired about the bike, and one of them had tried to walk out of the store with it, only to be stopped at the door because he didn't have the receipt and the claim ticket part of the Sold tag they put on it.
