very true but that being said and commented on... where can I get some wingnuts? I always thought my Fantom Uno would look nice with them even if it is a tig welded 2010 bike.

I picked up this sweet '65 Varsity on CL last spring from the original owner. Lots of cool original gear but he upgraded to wingnuts. Hopefully she will get some shop attention this winter.

That set on my Raleigh came from a Golden Arrow. That was a cool bike. I gave it to a friend cause it was too small for me and He didn't want the wheels.

Wingnuts? Eh. Yeah, they look cool, but I'll say no thanks.

My 1951 Sun Manxman looks tattier up close with its original paint and decals, but not too bad. The drive-side rear axle wingnut is more extended than the non-drive-side rear wingnut. This protruding wingnut is a quasi derailleur guard, giving some protection to the derailleur in case of the bike falling down on the ground.

Velo Orange has talked about new wing nuts, but no pictures yet.
I would love a set, but I don't have any hubs that would take them.
I have often wondered what it would take to modify a set to act as skewer nuts, then I could have wing nuts on my Phil Wood hubs!

I'd love to have a set for the new Lenton...front and back!
My luck with Sturmey nuts though, I'd get it and within 2 days it'd strip itself out

Yep, it supports the chain, keeping it off the threads. I don't think a "regular" wingnut would not be deep enough, though you could machine and thread a sleeve, might be easier to hunt up the correct nut.

I'm not about to start replacing my QR axles, but I may pony up for a set to use on my fixed gear.
