Tuesday curmudgeonly ranting

I saw an old Free Spirit 3-speed at an Estate Sale last weekend, it was in good shape, but nothing really all that special. It should have been the type of sale that one finds bargains at as it was in the middle of nowhere, but this was not the case, a big waste of time, I bought nothing. . Someone had put a hand written sign on the bike that stated it was a Sears & Roebuck bike and ‘Made in the USA’. I believe the first part, the second part not-so-much. And the best part is they wanted $90 for it, fantastic! What an incredible bargain, I could have bought it and sold if for nearly 1/2 that up on campus after I fixed it up.

Also, since it’s Tuesday… How dare those kids ride them new-fangled fixed-gear bicycles around, all whoopin it up and hollerin like they’re having a blast… I swear kids these days got no sense at all.

*edit* oh yeah, Pipe-Down over there on the cassette thread, you can hear that racket all the way over here... !@#$%^&* Bumpuses!

Well, that bike cost 1000 dollars new. How big of a hit do you expect them to take?

BPJ, I saw that same bike. I just shook my head.

I actually went to check out the Bennoto they advertised. I arrived a bit before the posted start time to find it was already gone.

If it existed at all.

BTW, how is the Fuji?

Look on the bright side Jimmy, If you'd bought it at that price you'd be feeling fairly foolish now!

the Fuji is fine, it's the wheels that are trashed. Who knew rusty steel wheels from the 80's wouldn't support a rather large fella through an entire riding season? ...oh wait, I knew... time to build some real wheels.

These are economic strange times. First it was the Dutch tulip flap, then baseball cards, cabbage patch dolls, and beanie babies.
Now it's "sell your scrap gold" and "bicycles for sale".

I swear I should put 'barn find' in every ad because I keep my bikes out in my barn... I find bicycles in my barn every time I go out there.

Its Tuesday and I would love to be out there whooping it up on my new fangled Fixed Gear, but it is 250 degrees out right now and too hot for anyone in their 50s to be riding a bike.
