Motobecane Seat Post / Binder Bolt Size

Hi. I am rebuilding a Motobecane Mixte for my girlfriend. I have been trying to find a replacement for the original seat post bolt and am having trouble. I would like to use one the same style as the one in the attached photo.

The ones my local bike shop have in stock are too thick in diameter.

Does anyone know what size I should be looking for? I will have to order on-line since none of the local shops can help me so I would like to know the proper size. It seems like they are available in 10mm and 8mm maybe i need 8mm?

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

chris

8mm with a 10mm shoulder would be my guess. If you can measure the ID of the hole it goes into that should narrow it down. I suspect the hole is a little over 10mm, which would validate my guess. If you're really stuck, let me know and I'll go out and remove my bolt & measure it.

I pulled my '77 Moto Super Mirage Mixte out of the garage the other day anticipating a sale (it fell thru) and I realized that my seat bolt is missing as well. However, I do have a chrome plated bushing on the drive side of the bike. I removed this and was able to fit a seat bolt from one of my Raleighs.

I guess I'm in the same boat you are. Is the bolt in your post an actual Moto seat bolt or just one that would fit?

old's'cool, if you'd be willing to measure and photograph your Moto seat bolt, I would be greatful.

Apparently I have ADD. How's Saturday sound? Wouldn't hurt to remind me again in 24 hours. Sorry 'bout that Chief!

You are too patient!

OK, I just pulled and measured my bolt. The thread is 6mm and the shoulder is 8mm. Hope that helps.

Cheers!
