Bertoni question
Probabalt been asked before...but were these, in fact, built by Bianchi and sold here in the US under the Bertoni label? and what do we think of them? Are we getting a "Costco/Kirkland" Bianchi?

rumor has it that Ben Lawee, who imported these Italian-built bikes and owned the brand, had at least some of them built by Bianchi...but there could have been another contractor or two involved as well. In any case, the ones I've seen are very well made and nothing to look down on.

I don't know who built them but I agree w/Unworthy on the Lawee connection, and they always seemed like real nice bikes but never saw one my size.
I do recall in '92(?) Univega/Lawee did an 'inhouse' dealer show rather than go to Interbike. we went to the warehouse in Mansfield (I think). along with the Univegas they had some beautiful Bertoni frames including a MAX frame with a paint scheme only rivaled by the best Colnago "peacocks" unfortunatly we did not all walk around with camera phones in those days and there never seemed to be Bertoni catalog that year.
if by Cosco/Kirkland you mean a department store or discount house bike, I don't think Bertonis fit that description.
