Snarkypup,

I was just in the belltown pull apart, and second what gaucho777 mentioned-- they have oodles of nice vintage parts including several SR stems. I was in there getting a clamp on cable stop that I could not find anywhere else in town. I also noticed that they has some lovely suntour bar end shifters just like some I purchased on ebay, for a much better price than what I paid.

Honestly, I do not need this temptation right now :). I'm supposed to be concentrating on the new house, the new house! I'll have to head down there once I get going. Duckforcover sent his old stem off to me, and I'll try that first. I got the stainless steel braided brake and derailleur cable from VO (no more electric blue, hurrah!). I have NOS Dia Compe levers coming. One of my best friends is sending me a new honey B17 and matching VO leather bar tape for my birthday, as well as lots of Phil bike lube, since she works for them. I ordered gumwall Panaracer Paselas with commuter tread. That, with new tubes and brake pads, should do it for now, and I think it's going to be a really gorgeous bike. Then, if I like it and find it easy to ride, I'll throw on a Blackburn rack, some pannier bags, stainless fenders, a nice bell, a good lighting system and a nice saddlebag, and I'll be ready to commute to work, which is ten brutally hilly miles away. I can only commute a couple days a week (when I don't have my six year-old), but that will be enough, given Seattle's weather. Considering I can ride my '69 Sports that far (but not up those hills), I don't think the road bike will be a problem for me. I'll have invested about $200 in it, but when I think about what it costs to drive my car there, I know I'm getting a great deal. And exercise to boot! I can't wait. Must think about refinishing floors and buying coffee tables... must not think about bike...
