Phineas Gage tire

Phineas Gage tire
I was locking up my commuter at lunch and thought I saw a pebble embedded in my tire. A quick flick with my fingernail didn't move it so I looked closer and saw this

I don't know how long it had been there but I made it the 11 miles home without issue. The tire still has tread so I think I'll just boot it and keep on truckin'.

Save it as a souvenir. The nail that didn't flat your bike tire!
I flatted--- for the first time in 15 or so years--- in my car last week. Turned out the culprit was a sharp sided pebble about 1/4 the size of a pea. I could not believe it.

Phineas Gage! The lucky fellow lived after getting a steel rod through his skull about 20 miles from me (but 100 years ago).
A few weeks ago I had a kitchen fork go through the sidewall on my car's tire and flat it. I blame him... what an a-hole.

Go figure; having a steel rod blown through his brain pan at work gave him a lousy attitude. Why does unfortunate, infamous Phineas get remembered as a man of poor temperament and judgement, when he was tip-top before the accident?
Oh yeah, tire. That's really odd. Car tires could probably absorb a hundred of those nails without flatting

That is amazing! It's not often that an obscure reference like Phineas Gage comes up. I just learned about him in my AP Psychology class a couple of weeks ago. Serendipity is a wonderful thing.

Hey, this is C&V--we LIVE for obscure references.
