This just in......
My birthday present comes a month early. I sold that beautiful De Rosa Replica 1957 I had, to a thrilled buyer in St Louis. It was delivered to its' new owner today, and this one coincidentally comes to my door today, as well.
Purchased from a fellow BF member that values his privacy, so he will not be named here. I will say he gave me a square deal, and his packing job was practically bullet-proof. It arrived in a custom-built wood crate, expressly built to ship this frame.
I could not be more pleased - a rather unique and beautiful Mica-blue opalescent paint finish, chrome head lugs, and chrome flat fork crown. It is everything I could want in a De Rosa Primato.
I'll start a build thread as I get it ready to ride, but I just had to share it here today.

Whoa -- that is a nice one!
BBM, you should expect me out your way sometime in the near future so I can check it out in person.
I've got some flip parts for you to bring as well.

How highly regarded are the Primato's and where do they sit on the De Rosa hierarchy? A friend has the same bike but in red. It's so beautiful in person, the chain stays and bottom bracket shell are my favorite. Oh and what year is it?

I like big pictures of attractive bikes.
This one qualifies.
Haven't seen this color in this country.
Primatos are beautiful bikes, but OFG and BBM are more highly qualified to discuss this matter.
The beauties at our house are made from "lowly" Columbus SLX!
Not the same as EL-OS, that's for sure.
As far as model heirarchy, they (Primatos) are at the top of the food chain imho.
By the way BBM, I'd keep both of them.

A hint on these babies is the webbing on the bottom bracket.
I'm sure BBM will give us his usual highly detailed foto spread.
If we are lucky, it will be as helpful as the one he did with his Pogliaghi.
......or yours with your nice Pinarello build.

Is that a box of tomatoes? I've never seen a blue tomato.
BBM, I dare you to hang Nashbar and Microshift gear on that Italian Stallion!
The Black will compliment the Blue nicely.

BBM,
I think you will notice a difference in the sloping crown and flat crown versions. You have yourself one of the best bikes made by one of the best builders, using some of the best steel. Pretty much pure heaven.
I remember this comment from someone on the CR list:
I did a nice ride to visit from Verona to Lago Caldonazzo to visit Dario
Pegoretti last year. We chatted about many subjects and I remember in particular his comments about DeRosa. Dario said that while many builders could build one perfect bike out of 100, Ugo DeRosa would build 100 perfect bikes out of 100.
High praise, indeed!

I'm in the same boat as Tx, I can't view this at work! TORTURE! I suspect we have another candidate for most beautiful bike here....I have got to try one of the Primatos. My SLX De Rosa is nice, but I want to have the full range of De Rosa experiences.
Nix the Ciocc, keep two De Rosas.

Beautiful!
What sort of parts are you thinking you'll build it up with?
spooky timing...I was up late last night with a glass of single malt perusing DeRosa's, Eddy Merckx's, and Cinelli's (and maybe a bianchi or two)

Yes - EL-OS. My De Rosa purchasing consultant (OFG) insisted I hold out for a bike with this tubing set.
If you buy it and ship it to my door, I will. Ball's in your court, preacher..........
A non-list member that pulled the ad off my local CL. Seems he was recently the victim of a hit-and-run. He was injured, and his bike was destroyed. Now he has a new one.
Maybe you'll see him around town. If you do see him, you'll know it - he'll be riding the only bike of it's kind out there, and it will be a head-turner.
10 speed Campagnolo. In particular, a mix of Record and Chorus that I have been accumulating for just such an acquisition. Off the top of my head:
Chorus: Shifter/brake levers, bb, both derailleurs, titanium Chorus seat post.
Record: Crank, headset, brake calipers.
Other parts will include Cinelli 64 bars and stem (1A, maybe 1R or XA), KMC 10SXL chain, and Campagnolo cable kit. Wheels are "to be determined", but most likely with Chorus hubs. The saddle will be Regal (of course), although I can't decide on black or white.
