Frankenbike solutions
A couple weeks ago I picked up a project -- a Raleigh Sports frameset I intend to build up for my daughter:

That's it: frame & fork, headset, mudguards and a handful of clamp-on cable guides and such. No BB or drivetrain. No wheels. No bars. No brakes. This isn't a restoration, and will be used to ride around campus, so I'll be using what I have at hand as much as possible. I don't have any extra cottered cranks, and cotterless would shave off some weight, so I dug out a set of old SR Apex arms. I found some 1-3/8 x 26tpi Hercules cups, but what spindle? BB shell measures 71mm across so I dug up an old Campy 70-SS spindle, but the races were shot. I started comparing the race spacing on the Campy with other spindles and came across these:

122mm Stronglight spindle -- darned if it didn't fit like a glove!

Any other amazing Frankenbike success stories out there?
