I'd like to borrow (or purchase) a cup removal tool for the following BB:

I ran into a pattern like that recently on an eight speed suntour cassette lock ring.

Jim,
If you come across any more info on this type of BB, please pass it along! Looks like I just bought myself a similar BB this weekend!
(80s Specialized Expedition...same splined cups.)

I ran across that BB on the Fuji Touring Series V I sold earlier this year. Even the old time LBS didn't have it. The good thing is, those BB's last a long time, so mine didn't need a repack.

that is a sealed BB the bearings are in cartridges and don't really get repacked more like replaced.

Thanks OFG & BG. I'll keep my paws off it.

Your need one of these:

I got one (and I had one heck of a time finding it...the one LBS who actually had one found out it was broken) for lending. Who needs it first? If someone wants to "upgrade" to a different BB, I would also be interested in the old one for my "old suntour BB collection".

PM me with an address and I will try to get it off this week.

How is that bottom bracket assembled? Are the cartridges in the cups? That cylinder, is it just a sleeve?

balindamood 10-25-10 07:38 PM

It is a solid cartridge ala Phil Wood. The right and left cups are idendical, except the right (and lockring) are reverse threaded.

Thanks balindamood. But given the design info, I'll be leaving mine in the shell.

I am sorry Jim I don't have that tool. if you end up buying one and want to pass it along let me know.
