Masi is finished! (pic heavy)
*** finally finished a better photo set of this bike. See it later in this thread. ***
Couldn't wait to put up pictures. I am really pleased with how this turned out. I bought the bare frame a few months ago. It is an 84 Rob Roberson built frame with all original paint and decals. Everything is period correct except for the Cobalto brakes. I had a pair with no jewels and decided to try them with gold jewels on this bike. Everything was de-anodized and polished. I am waiting for the last part - a drilled Regina Oro chain. Then she will be perfect! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...um/Masi012.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...um/Masi014.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...um/Masi017.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...um/Masi019.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...um/Masi020.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...um/Masi022.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...um/Masi024.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...um/Masi026.jpg |
WOW - beautiful! I particularly like the first-generation Super Record brake levers, and of course the polished components. Bravo on a very fine build!

What kind of leather bar tape is it?

I thought about yellow tape on the bars, which you often see with red and orange bikes. But I was afraid of getting too much of a bumblebee look. And I wanted leather tape and couldn't find any in yellow. May still consider trying it though and seeing how it looks.

I think he meant the electrical tape you wrap the bar tape end with. And maybe yellow barplugs? It looks great!!
vjp I am trying to get some vintage Campy bar end plugs which are yellow with the Campy logo. |

Beautiful. - And you certainly did everything so tastefully! :thumb:

Are the way the cables configured correct for the period and the bike? That much cable coming up over the handlebars looks odd to me. The yellow and black is beautiful though, it will definitely be a big compliment getter.

Fantastic build! How about a closeup of that fork crown?

That's a helluva nice fork crown! Stunning. What kind of yellow housing is that? Is that derailleur or brake housing on the dr? I ordered some before, but it was too "citrus" looking (looking for more of golden rod).
Congrats! |
Very nice, but you need to tell us a bit about it. Milano or California? Reynolds or Columbus? Year? Builder? And who did the paint and decals?

Yellow housing is Jagwire from Harris Cyclery. You can buy it by the foot, both brake and derailleur. It looked a little sickly off the bike but he contrast with the black made it look better. |
Stunning.
Drilled Oro chain, nice. What freewheel is on there? How does it fit in? Are you a collector or will you do the occasional ride on it? Can't be your only bike? |
what kind of tires are those?

I plan on it being my main vintage ride. I also have a '62 Frejus Tour de France, '69 Holdsworth Cronometro, '70 Geoffrey Butler, '84 Ciocc Designer 84, '85 Cannondale SR300 retro mod, '86 Colnago Superissimo SLX, 2010 Giant Defy Advanced 1. Not to mention the mountain bikes. I actually mostly ride the Giant because it has a compact crank and 11-28 cassette and there are a lot of mountains where I live. I try to ride all the bikes at least occasionally but the Frejus, Holdsworth and Colnago will eventually be for sale. My main passion is building/restoring 60s-80s Italian and English bikes. Here are also bottom bracket and yellow finishing tape pictures: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...m/DSC00786.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...m/DSC00784.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...m/DSC00788.jpg |
