Check out what I got for $30
It's a 1988 Trek 1000.
Came with Vittoria Rubino Pro tires in decent condition. It also had some Deda tape that looks pretty new.
The seller told me the frame was a 54cm and that he had just gotten the wheels trued. However, the frame was a 56cm (just too big for me) and the wheels are really out of true. He also, told me the cables were new, but they don't look new.
Still a good deal for $30 though. I was wondering if I should get some STI shifters and a 7 speed freewheel or stick with DT shifters. There's not much for me to do with a 56cm, so I was just thinking about getting DT shifters and selling it to a friend.

Looks like the downtube boses are gone, which these bikes are sorta prone with, theres just a small rod connecting them through the tube, its possible to fix, and something you'll have to do to get any kind of gears on the bike.

very nice. I agree it looks like a nice deal. shifter bosses for this or a clamp on cable stop should not be too hard to source. first stop trek dealer.

Would a clamp on downtube cable stop even exist for that diameter downtube? if so where? ive got an aluminum frame bike and Im not a fan of downtube shifters so im always running bar cons for "brifter" and I find its stupid when you gotta run the cables a quarter of the way down the tube, id grind them off if I could and use a clamp just behind the headtube area.
