There are lots of good pumps out there. I recommend against the big box stores. All the pumps I've seen there look pretty lousy and get bad reviews.
I have a few pumps. My Joe Blow works fine but I'm about to replace the second head. I don't know why I'm so unlucky there. And my Specialized pump just keeps working. I've never been disappointed by a thing that Specialized puts out! And yes, the narrower your tire, the faster it fills up, even though it needs a lot more pressure than a MTB tire. |
My cheap alloy barrel Giyo still works OK after 10 yrs.

It's really not hard to make a good floor pump. The design hasn't changed radically in a zillion years.

The Serfas FP-200 works well...I use them sometimes at my LBS...I "stepped up" to the FMP-500...but...it's $50.
They both use a "smart" head...which work directly on either schraeder or presta. Serfas also has a lifetime warranty FWIW. |

I have a Topeak Joe Blow Max that I picked up at Marshalls or TJ Maxx for short money years ago. It works pretty well. It had a couple little flaws, though. The hose keeps cracking and I have to keep shortening it, to the point that I have to position the tire valve stem near the floor. Also the presta/schraeder head tends to come apart when taking it off the valve. Doesn't really affect the function, though.
I got a Giant something-or-other at the store and it's fine. Uses the same head for both valve types. I like the gauge positioned up near the handle instead of down at the base. |
I use a TOPEAK super chuck brass head. It attaches to my hose and turns a 5$ pump into a high end one. Works great it comes with a pressure relief valve also, nice little product for less then 10 bucks.

I have a 21 year old Silca that just keeps going. I've replaced the leather washer in it, the hose with air tool hose, and the head with a free-from-the-lbs takeoff, but it just keeps a-pumping. They're expensive but well built with metal castings and Columbus tubing.
Pumps in a given price range are pretty fungible. I think the Park is a fine pump for the money. B |
