Please Recommend a Floor Pump
 

I'm in the market for a floor pump and wondering what a good choice would be? I rather not spend more than $40.00

I recommend always trying pumps first in a shop.
Checking they attach and detach from the value, and get up to a good psi

I tried one today and it was terible. It was a Zefal floor pump and states 200PSI but the thing took around 30 strokes to get 50PSI into a 26" tire. Maybe the work better with thin road tires?

I have a $20 Zefal floor pump from Walmart. I don't know if it will last, but it works good

I have a Topeak Joe Blow Max that I picked up at Marshalls or TJ Maxx for short money years ago. It works pretty well. It had a couple little flaws, though. The hose keeps cracking and I have to keep shortening it, to the point that I have to position the tire valve stem near the floor. Also the presta/schraeder head tends to come apart when taking it off the valve. Doesn't really affect the function, though.

I always recomend the Silca but I see they are quite pricy now.

I use an electric inflater that you plug into your car lighter thingy. I've had it for years, paid $7 for it. Has a gauge attached. Inflates a tire in about 15 seconds.

I just got a Topeak Joe Blow Sport at REI - the price was $35ish. It's been great so far.

I've got a Joe Blow, not sure which model, but it has a chrome body, and has been good to me so far.

I have a Planet Bike that I got for $30-$35.

I don't have any recommendation, as I use an air compressor at home. However, I am tempted to buy this

just because it would be very cheap(especially with 30% off this weekend, les than $10), and it is new with warrantee through REI. You could save shipping by having it shipped to one of their stores nearby.

It might not be the best, but for the money, it is a good deal.

On a side note, if anyone is looking for a good work stand, there is a high end Pedros on sale, with 30% on top of that. That would be less than $140... plus tax, for a $275 stand.

I have a Joe Blow Max as well and Its ok, I like the double sided presta/schrader valve. Mine doesn't go above 120psi though.

IMHO if you're gonna spend any real amount of money on a floor pump you're better off spending 40 bux for a small shop compressor and get a presta and a shrader valve for it.

Compressors are so infinitely useful and air tools (buffers, grinders...) are often cheaper than their motorized counterparts.

I purchased a Topeak brand foot pump with SV and PV head this Spring and have had very good luck with it. Inflates fast and well. This replaced an older Zephal Husky steel model that finally gave out.

I had a Silca floor pump for over 20 years until it developed a leak around the pressure gauge, which wasn't remedied by any of the contemporary replacement part. So I bought a Park PFP-4 and have been very happy with it.

I use a Nashbar big orange pump that works great once I lopped off the POS pump head that came with pump and put on a Topeak dual.

These are some really nice ones from Lezyne. I wish I would have gotten one of these instead.

I'm using a Topeak Joe Blow Sprint now for one season. I average 4 tires /day with it, and so-far am very satisfied with it. The head stays where I put it, and having the gauge's dial up close is a plus too.

Speciialized air tool would fit the bill.

I second the positive recommendation for the Serfas FP-200. I've had mine for over 2 years now without complaint. At the shop I frequent, they use the Joe Blow Sport. I've use it as well and it seems fine. I think when I'm ready to buy a new one, it may be the Joe Blow Sport.

I use a Wrench Force, have now for 4 years. It has pumped all types of tires very well. The head comes with both syles shraeder and presta.

The guage is an easy read during use while I look with my failing sight.Cost was around 27 dollars. The feet platform is wide and set, does not fold up.

One thing I find lacking is the handle has started to flex alittle. Hope this gives you some info of choice.

I know your budget is not to be above $40.00, but if you do consider it I highly recommend the Lezyne Alloy Floor Drive, as I do to all my customers. Once the chuck breaks in they're easy to use, very efficient and accurate. Also it looks as if they can be had for $50 if you shop them around; I know I would sell one to a customer in my shop for that if they brought me a competing deal.

Got a yellow Joe Blow from my local PBS two months ag on sale on end of season clearance for like14 bucks. Like it so far. It seems to be well built and should last for a long time. It also inflates my tubulars and hP clinchers as well as my old plastic Zefal that did a very good job too till it final broke after over 20 years of use.
I think it was regualarly price for like 34 bucks.

I have another cheapo plastic one that works great, too, but has a short hose, poor guage, and needs an adapter.

Blackburn Air Tower - shop around and you might find one in your price range. I can't fault mine, bought it at clearance for under £20 (UK currency) at a bicycle promotions event. It's in constant daily use - 34 bikes plus flippers and spare wheels means I'm always pumping tyres. No problems at all after 2 years use. All parts are replaceable and its got a lifetime guarantee.
