I was also thinking first gen Dura Ace such as those components on Scott Ryder's Fuji Ace. Sweet!
Neal Thanks Neal .. I've always been a Suntour fan but I love how the 1st. generation Dura Ace looks and performs .. http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...e/_MG_5257.jpg More photos: http://vintagefuji.posterous.com/197...e-ace-part-two Scott |

I saw your Delta brake on Ebay going for $355 plus! I did list my Delta set, but decided they would look great on my Gios. After I pulled the Delta listing I received several offers(from Ebay watchers), and said no!

I'm a sucker for drillium and Zeus did it particularly well:

i have a set of these in the basement. they are pretty but mine are a bit scratched up.
edit: thought i quoted the comment about mistral cranks. anyways |
I hate to say it, but I just do NOT like Delta brakes - really big and clunky, IMO... Pretty finish, and I like that everything is hidden, it just seems that the package could be...more petite?

C-Record!

So far Schwinn Approved is the only set mentioned here that comes with a spoke protector. A nice shiny chrome spoke protector.

I have an awesome Huret spoke protector on my '74 Raleigh Super Tourer with Huret Jubilee mechs and Huret stem shifters:

I like them all. I, therefore have too many bikes.
A couple which have been missed: -First generation Campy Chorus -Ofmega Mistrel/Master (mid 80's) -Mavic 631 |
Most beautiful RD I've ever seen. The only one close to it is the Sram Red RD.

I have a 600 arabesque group sitting in a box right now. It's pretty but I would ride cyclone or superbe over it any day. I keep the group thinking I'll find a pretty Japanese frame to hang it on some day. I also have a nuovo record rd that I keep just because it is so beautiful and because it represents an era of beautiful lugged road bikes to me.
The 600 tricolor group however (8s STI) is easy on the eyes and performs very well... Not all that vintage but I think 8s stuff sort of bridges the gap. I also have a set of Cyclone Derailers that I have not decided what to put them on. I liberated them from a Univega I was Flipping. Had a guy buy a Tange Prestige frame from me this week and we got talking parts. I dropped the cyclone RD in his palm and he was blown away with the quality and how light it was. He had never handled one before. For comparison I dropped a very low mile 105SC RD in his hand. The Cyclone seems to weigh half as much. |

Initially I was thinking "MAVIC", but then it came to me: the mid-70's Spidel "group" as used on the Peugeot team bikes: Maillard hubs, MAFAC Competition brakes, Simplex SLJ derailleurs and Stronglight 105bis crank, all gold-anodized. 'Course I'd want the PY10CP frame to go with it: 531sl with brazed-on brake pivots. Some nice pics of one here: http://www.jimlangley.net/ride/py10.html , :
Second, I'll add my voice to the Ofmega is cool opinions. I used the Mistral crank on my Centurionelli project and paired it with a neat Ofmega Premier (which works wonderfully) rear D. that fits the theme. I just need to find a front from the same design and it's sort of a "gruppo", paired with Campy brakes that have similar visual accents. Maybe a slightly sacriligeous +mix and match" but I thought it worked well visually. I'm certain I'm in a small, small group who think they're rather hideous. Just from a stand point of aesthetics, I'd take a set of AX brakes over them any day of the week. |
late 80's suntour superbe and the first round of c-record (mid 80's?) give nuovo and super record a run for their money, i think, anyhow.
