That's a '52. What year were they introduced? Maybe rare.
Pivot bolts are different than the other 50's GS rear on ebay as well. Maybe another clue.
Edit: According to VeloBase the '52 was the first year and the only year to use those pivots.

I love stuff like this! I think it's worth every penny to the buyer and if I had endless funds I'd probably play the game too.

It is actually the second year of production Gran Sport. As so often happens, Campagnolo had to fill the supply chain in the first year, so many shops and mechanics bought the first year, but they didn't always sell through to an end client as it was reasonably expensive, so far fewer retailers bought the second year, making it quite a bit rarer than the first year. I have sold 7 first year Gran Sport derailleurs over the years and only 2 of the second year ones. Due to rarity, it should cost more than the first year derailleur, but the first year still trumps the second year.

If you look at the bids, you will see that the $2300 price is precisely what both the bidders have bid and the first one to place that bid wins, so it is wrong to say to wait because were teh bidding to end now, teh first bidder would win. I doubt that the price will stay where it is.

Gee, If I had a derailer worth $2300 it would be on ebay right now.

This is exactly why it is foolish to not research stuff you come across if you don't already know what it is. I know if I were to see that derailleur in a rummage sale with a $100 price sticker on it I'd have guessed someone was trying to get top dollar for it just because of the Campy name on it, especially because it appears to have a bolt-on hanger bracket (near as I can tell with this phone browser).
And with that said I now need to go find out what a first gen DuraAce derailleur is "worth". If it's worth 1/10th of what the above is going for then I might be parting out a bike instead of rebuilding it.
Interesting stuff.

Bikes: 3Rensho Aero with 10 speed Centaure / Record , Lecroco , whatever bike I have for sale at the moment
There are many reasons why bidders would place an early bid on a rare item. One of them is to make sure the seller won't end an auction early after receiving a buy-it-now/ off-Ebay offer.
