Is anyone else as irritated as I am by ebay and craigslist ads that use a header containing the word "wow?" What can they be thinking?
Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.
Come to think of it, how can anyone else know how irritated I am?
Oh, forget it.

Wow ! That really annoys me. Wow ! ;)

... For the most part, there's nothing to WOW about in these ads.

Know what I hate more, those craigslist ads that have $1 listed as the price, then you open it up to find the item is on some ebay knock-off auction site. Don't waste my time, name a price on CL and be done with it.

I've got an unrelated rant.

I'm in the market for a house and I just had a Real Estate Agent send me an email with this as the closing:

there are so many things wrong with that statement I didn't know where to begin.
The first thing that came to mind was "Well, you can kiss my heiney"

^ Tell your RE agent he/she is fired after you tell he/she how to use an apostrophe. :lol: You (and your wife/kids) are the judge of "quality of life". My apologies to any real estate agents on this forum, but as far as I can see they're about like travel agents; their profession is pretty much all but unnecessary today.

Jeez, I know I told him to kiss my well-toned posterior (in slightly more colorful terms) but I may have forgot to mention that he's fired. :lol:

Zaphod - It's a good thing you didn't fire him yet - You need to correct his punctuation before you do.

(I think that's the real problem with the world today. No one gives a damn about grammar and punctuation.)

Well, you have to know what you are looking for. A "wow" search could turn up one of these.

I get annoyed when you are searching for road bikes and there are two pages of POS fixed gears. That bugs me.

I also get annoyed when a part that goes on many different types of bikes has "fixed" in the heading to grab the attention of people with too much money and not enough smarts.

That RE agent sounds like a real gem.

Oh, one last rant...people who drive with hoods on! As if texting and listening to an ipod aren't enough to distract young drivers, all these jackarses with their "hoodies" hoods pulled on bug me. Sweet, you are a terrible enough driver, now you can't see out any of your mirrors. That'll be great for the cyclist you don't see as you right turn in front of him...

WOW doesn't bother me, its the characters that knowingly misrepresent a bike, whether they call a UO8 a PX10, or a Schwinn Varsity a Paramount, and so on. I don't mind so much when the "mistakes" understate the value/caliber of the bike, but it seems like 99% of the time, sellers err on the up side.

I've learned from a couple of rounds of house buying, that real estate agents--even the ones whom you've hired to found you a house--are all about the sale, not about you. I don't blame them for that, really, but it can be very frustrating when you're trying to get your needs met and are about to make the largest purchase of your life.

I hate "wow!" I'll be the judge of "wow!" I'm sometimes "wowed!" by vintage bicycles, but almost never the ones where the ads contain the word "wow!" I'm as irritated as you are.

+1! to nayr497 re "Fixie" listings. Just earlier today, I saw separate listings for "fixie" saddles and stems.

Zaphod: Real estate agents are not interested in finding you the best house or even getting you the best offer when selling your home. They are interested in getting you the first reasonable offer or the first acceptable home. Real estate agents who sell their own homes keep them on the market significantly longer than their clients' homes in order to wait for the best offer. There's a great chapter in the book Freakonomics on this topic.

I also like Ebay auctions that say "cheap".

Not surprisingly, I think many of us read the same books. Those interested in grammar and punctuation may enjoy "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" by Lynne Truss.

Neal: The (un)real estate agent isn't going to show you any respect not only for the reason cited above by gaucho777, but also because you're not going to be giving him repeat business. When I buy shoes, and I get friendly service, I go back and buy more shoes at the same place. It doesn't behoove the RE agent to care, because I'm unlikely to need to buy a house within his geographical area ever again.

I hate auctions where they indicate that the vintage Trek you're looking at is "like Cannondale, Bianchi, Giant" in addition to all the things mentioned above. No, it isn't, and just because of your complete lack of sophistication, I'm not going to buy it.

I really wish people would just describe what they're selling.
