A Peugeot P20 for $50 (assuming nice condition)? It's an '87 I believe...

Like this (not this one):

Will be used to leave at my shop and run to the post office/bank/etc.

Absolutely. I have been looking for something similiar for errands in the city. $50 is very reasonable.

Oh. No. But he'll take two twenties and I'd spend that (even my own money).

Naw.

For a basic around-town errand bike, I'd just use a rigid mtb - unless you need the utility of a folder.

No...I have that.

This is to sit by the back door at my shop...the front people can use it to run up the street if they like. Maybe it will never get used. We'll see.

So...I almost walked away from it...but...I picked it up for $30.

The indicator chain is broken, and the bottom bracket is loose. Tires were of course flat, needs brake shoes/etc.

If it proves to be too much trouble I'll just bring it by the co-op.

Bikes: 2006 Trek 1500 SLR,

I hate to admit it, but for that money, I would buy almost any bike.

Tomorrow morning...maybe I'll even feel like putting a new cable on it and airing up the tires.

Anyone know what to expect of the bottom bracket? French, Italian (read somewhere they were supposedly made in Italy), or ??? Cottered crank, so there is the immediate PITA factor.

Here's a pic:

The front tube held air...back, not so much. Needs cables, indicator chain, and brake pads...and I should probably service the headset and BB.

I should have everything laying around here, except maybe a 20" tube...so...not too much further outlay.

Bikes: 1940s Fothergill, 1959 Allegro Special, 1963? Claud Butler Olympic Sprint, Lambert 'Clubman', 1974 Fuji "the Ace", 1976 Holdsworth 650b conversion rando bike, 1983 Trek 720 tourer, 1984 Counterpoint Opus II, 1993 Basso Gap, 2010 Downtube 8h, and...

I'm guessing it has an Italian BB!

But yeah, if I needed a bike for the type of job you describe, I would probably buy that bike.

If I didn't... I might just buy it for the stem!
