Ernst OHRT bicycle info request
Hello
I've recently acquired an Ohrt bicycle and would appreciate any info regarding this bike.
So far what I've been able to find out is that Ernst Ohrt of San Francisco was the brother of Hans Ohrt of Hollywood. Both were very involved in the bicycling scene before the depression and perhaps up until the 60s.
The 'Ohrt-labeled' bike I have was, to the best of my knowledge, built in post-war France. It has a four speed freewheel and the components are mid-40s Huret.
And that's about all I know.
Thanks -Rob

Bikes: 1967 Paramount; 1982-ish Ron Cooper; 1978 Eisentraut "A"; two mid-1960s Cinelli Speciale Corsas; and others in various stages of non-rideability.
Give a shut to Steve Howard at Livermore Cyclery (the Livermore main store, not the Dublin branch one). He has an Ohrt hanging on his wall, with the four-speed freewheel and a British Cyclo RD (1930's design, built until sometine into the 1950's). He may have some additional info.

Ernie Ohrt was indeed the brother of Hans. Hans coached the Olympic teams for the USA, '56 and or '60, maybe more. Hans died in the 60's. His shops continued on run by family till the late 80's or even 90's. Ernie Ohrt's shop was closed before I was aware there was one, other than seeing a bike with the shop transfer. As Hans imported and sold bikes from a number of makers, including Bertin, you might see if your bike compares closely to Bertin models.

Rob, I just came across this comment on someone's blog page:
"...I think you mean Ernst Ohrt, not Peter, who owned Ernst Orht’s on Stanyan across from American Cyclery. Mr. Ohrt taught me to ride in the mid-50's. Mr Ohrt was a “racing star” in the late 20's and early 30's and organized the US team that went to the Berlin Olympics. https://blog.modernmechanix.com/2007/...le-comes-back/ His brother Hans owned Hans Ohrt Lighweight Bicycles in Beverly Hills."
