Is there a good how to site for converting it to a SS/fixed gear? There will be no kittens hurt during this conversion. Also not sure if I want to go fixed or SS. I thought I would get you guys opinion on which to go with.
Excellent candidate. As for SS versus fixed, it's all preference. Firstly, a flip flop (SS/Fixed) hub lets you have both options. I urge you to try riding fixed. If you don't have particularly sensitive knees or ankles it's a lot of fun. After building up an old frame with a flip flop hub and never even using the freewheel side.

I'm currently setting up a Reynolds 531 frame with a S3X hub. I had considered the S2C hub, but I've really taken to fixed gear riding.

+1 on the fixed gear- fun and a nice period touch

I am all for adopting "scorcher" as a catch-all term for this particular type of retro-styled bike. Love it, in fact.

I want to reiterate my first post in this thread and agree with CJL: the Galaxy is a nearly perfect candidate for the type of build you're thinking of. Please please ignore all the fighting, complete your build and post pictures of it!

CJL: What kind of handlebars are you thinking? Normal drops or are you going for the old-school look discussed in this thread? I've been thinking about an S3X build for awhile so I'm trying to gather inspiration.

Thanks for the input everyone. I was kind of trying to avoid the Path/Road/Racer debate, but oh well, no worrys.
I've got my idea of what I want to do. I really wanted to go cheap on this but I've changed my mind and I'm going buy some stuff I don't have in the garage. But I think it will turn out a little better. I've decided to the Soma Lauterwasser bars. Anyone ridden these bars before that can comment on the comfort level? This will not be an all day rider but I also don't it to be a unbearable.

Thanks
Mutt

I read somewhere, about a year ago, that a scorcher was someone who could put in a certain average in a race. I think the distance was 20 miles in the hour.

You also need to wear your peaked cap backwards!

I also think it is a good term, but again we are misappropriating an older word with a specific meaning. But that is the evolution of the English language.. just look at the change in meaning of the word 'gay'..
