My Benotto Modelo 850

2 Attachment(s)
Hi to you all out there. Well hopefully I have managed to discover the secret of attaching files/images from my PC.

The images are of my fully restored and bespoke rebuilt 52cm Benotto Modelo 850. Yes before you ask - it is an Italian frame not one of the Mexican built ones - Frame No R8578 originally in Benotto Light Gold.

The bike was seriously bodged and fitted with a 'Make-do and Hope for the best' collection of bits.

It was rescued from certain conversion into Bean Cans when I discovered it at a charity site on E'bay some three+ years ago - I gave £126.00+ for the pleasure of spending a further and much heavier lump of cash on a full re-enamelling and brand new Pantograph Benotto Chrome Forks.
My total spend was circa £1200-00 with the new Stove Enamelled Jacket + the original chromed forks courtesy of C&G Finishes,Liverpool.
The bike was built using a mix of mainly NOS but with a few carefully selected pre-owned items such as the Mavic rims on Mavic Aksium Race hubs with 8spd Campagnolo and my own Stronglight Triple on Thorn 140mm cranks (Prosthetic Total Left Knee in late November 2007) brought about by limited 92* bend at the knee.

There are some really beautiful bike in this thread! Here is one of mine - mid 1930s Maino Super Campionissimo with Vittoria Margherita. http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/e...pstqzlyqap.jpg http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/e...psmy361v4r.jpg

Masi (actually made here in Carlsbad back in '84), and Lemond (made in Italy in ~91?).

And I got to shake Dave Stoler's hand last summer and see his bike at Masi's 90th birthday party here in Carlsbad last Summer.

Quandas bellas! Is that last one on PCH, around Point Mugu? That is a great, great ride. Terah and I are going to Amtrak our bikes up to Santa Barbara and ride back to Carlsbad on that route again this Spring.

Bring your Italian bike and let me know the next time you're around North San Diego County. I know some nice rides, restaurants, and breweries.

Good eye! It IS right next to Mugu Rock.

I love to ride on PCH from Ventura down to Malibu or Santa Monica. In April May of last year, there was a pod of whales visible from PCH. The pod seemed to hang around for a couple of weeks. It was quite a sight!

I like that picture next to Missile Park. I stop there often.

I was in La Jolla a couple of years ago when my daughter was attending a surfing festival. I took my bike and rode. some beautiful sights.

I will let you know the next time I am there. :thumb:

Hi Kc. The paint finish on your Italian really does look like a proper Flamboyant on Chrome.

I have a Steve Goff built with Columbus Tubing (Designer Select which is of three different grades) and finished in a modern Flamboyant Blue. It is finished over a flash of Silver - I believe it does look good but alas it does not have that really deep lustre that the frame would have had with a pre Satin Chrome finish.

Here's my latest Italian Ride. A TSX tubed Billato Brothers built Greg Lemond Maillot Jaune. This is one sweet bike, in great shape, Campagnolo Components, fast, comfortable, perfect!

My Tommasini Prestige, most likely a 1986.

This bike is most likely the same one posted a few years back. http://www.bikeforums.net/13981218-post1.html
Not too many pink Tommies hanging around the place, and the frame has the same paint damage on the downtube, above the right shifter. It is probably from the front brake cable attachment arm and adjuster hitting the tube. It can be seen on the frame and fork picture clearly.

I don't know much about these bikes and there is little information about them. I built this frame this winter with parts I had laying around and find it rides at least as smooth as my carbon bike. I would assume that it would have originally came with campy components but like I have said I cannot track down anything. My hope is to acquire all the correct components for this model of bike, I assume it is a 2000.

Wow some truly awesome bikes here!

Here's mine in it's sorry state, currently undergoing a restoration where I will keep the existing paint, but most of the chrome is sadly too far gone. The horrible light will be replaced with one that looks period but with LED inside.

I'm doing it as a bike to use regularly not a perfect gleaming example (or that's the plan so far...)

Drillium Dude 03-31-17 02:55 AM

Imho, we don't see nearly enough top-line 70s/early 80s Bianchis dressed in Celeste. Thanks for sharing these two beauties. Although I'm done collecting for now, if the right Bianchi came along...

Of course I love the drillium on your Cinelli :)

I'd like to see some closeups of those hole-y bits.

Here are my two. A not-so-vintage 2000 Vianelli Corsa and a 1989 Bianchi Giro. The previous owner had upgraded the Giro with C Record delta brakes. Both great riders.
