Yet another Eddy Merckx 7-11 vintage bike-just purchased today!!!

After crashing my old corsa eddy merckx which had the 7-11 paint job last year, ive been searching for a replacement with my settlement money. Finally i picked this up today. Cant wait to ride it if and when the rain stops.

Wow! You found it in that condition? I think your teaser needs to be followed up by some in depth detail shots of that fine bike.

Wow, that is clean. It looks like new. I'm guessing you had to add a little dough to your settlement $ stash...7/11 Eddy's like that don't usually come cheap.

I'd like that Merckx to be a bit larger. Like a 62. Great looking find!

well first of all.....i was riding my corsa/7-11 when a car passed me and right hooked me in my bike lane...settled out of court. secondly, my friend and i left at 530am 120miles to this guys house. i bought the 7-11 he bought a team polti coppi (columbus genious tubing, dura ace 8spd sti, and he also bought a pdm concorde all c record (cobaltos and sherrif star hubs as well as c record pedals. all three bikes were very well cared for...almost like new. we made a package deal and paid 3 grand for all three which seemed reasonable to me. anyway, he was happy and i was happy. thanks for the compliments. he gave me a nos pair of team 7-11 gloves but i need to get the kit to round everything out.

Nice biike!

Allow me to bear witness.

That was quite a drive, serious hydroplaning along Hwy 80 and I'm still going on my meager 3hrs of sleep!

I'm new to this forum, btw. Joe easily underestimates the bike's conditions, which I would describe as new.

I'll have to post photos of the PDM Concorde and Polti Coppi I bought from the same seller, but don't want to steal Joe's thunder.
Joe prodded the seller to get the proper C-Record pedals for my Concorde as part of the great deal, and was the first spotter on Craigslist, so many thanks for everything.

Glad to see that the weather permitted your photo-shoot.

Does anyone know the significance of the Hampsten decal on the left side of TT? I haven't seen that before.

^ I was wondering that, too. Possibly a real team bike, and Andy's to boot?

Naw - nobody could get that lucky....?

I don't think it is...based on the cable routing and lack of a number hanger. I also don't recall many Merckx team bikes with pump pegs.

The way to know for sure is to go to the Merckx factory with the serial number.

I think for the three bikes described that $3k was a good deal...of course we will need pics of the Coppi and Concorde. A separate thread will be acceptable...welcome to the forum dddd.

I could see it being a team frame, though it looks too clean for that. The factory could tell you for sure.

dddd, by the way, is the best vintage bike repair guy i know of. meticulous is his middle name. welcome aboard dave! i thought maybe that the merckx was one they had made up for andy as an extra and maybe he never got a chance to ride it considering the that was the 7-11 teams last year before becoming motorola??? my harvy nitz bike, by the way, also does not have a number hanger and yet is without a doubt a genuine 7-11 team huffy.

Nice bike Joe. There is a 7-11 bike from Andy Hampsten's garage hanging in a LBS and it has a looong stem, sort like yours. Apparently all the guys at the shop took the bike for a spin around the block before it got hung on the wall and the stem was a real back bender, even for them. I'll try to grab a picture of it sometime so you can compare yours to that one.

that would be fantastic. this one is, i believe a 57 approx. is that andys size? also see if it has the same type of 7-11 name tag on the left side. thanks much. if this were andys bike, it would add to the collectability and i would love it more and probably, ride it less!!

Joe...I'll PM you contact info later today. I went through this with my Motorola, so I have a pretty good list of references for you.

I did a LOT of researching when I got my Bauer and I've never seen a 7-11 or Motorola Team bike with your features, so I'd be pretty surprised if it's real.
