Hey folks! Im new here! I have been riding bikes for years, but not very knowledgable. I have acquired a Bianchi last year and am only doing some research now on it. I believe it was built in Japan, due to the Shimano parts, but I am struggling to find images online of the bike I acquired. It has a unique emerald green colour to it (not the traditional sea-foam green). And the serial number is CS481165. If anyone could help in any way, would appreciate it!

Hi all--I just purchased what I believe is a 1988 Bianchi Sport SX, made in Japan. The serial number is AS718256--any way to verify?
Thanks all! Amazing work in this thread...

Welcom to the forums. You were close. It is Japanese manufacture but it's from January 1987. The serial number does not include codes to identify the model. You have to determine that from a combination of the tubeset, frame characteristics and/or components.

The frame is a 1987, Italian manufactured, mid-range model. Given the repaint and rebuild, it could be one of about five models, with either a Formula II or Formula II tretubi tubeset. The shift levers and calipers appear to be very early 1990s Shimano 105SC.

Thank you T-Mar. Would there be anyway to narrow it down? Or get the five models you mentioned?

The three full Formula II models were the Trofeo, Nuovo Alloro and Limited. The two tretubi Formula II models were the Squadra and Campione d'Italia. Typically, the tretubi models didn't have the embossed stay caps and fork crown, so I'd be leaning towards one of the full Formula II models. To the best of knowledge, the frame on these three were identical, except for colours. The difference was in the components, So if it's been repainted and all the components have been replaced, there is no way of telling. Sometimes, owners retain some of the OEM tertiary components, such as the headset, pedals, seat post, saddle, bars and stem. In this case it looks like it even has a replacement 105SC headset and the saddle is definitely non-OEM.

The confirmed 1987 Bianchi Trofeo, Nuovo Alloro and Limited that I've seen have all employed the same investment cast brake bridge as used on your frame. Given that the frames are otherwise identical, it does not make sense to vary something as trivial as the brake bridge. Using an identical frame for all three models has advantages from both logistical and cost perspectives. If someone has seen a different bridge on one of these 1987 models, it was probably due to supply issues with the specified bridge or a Bianchi manufacturing issue.

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. I am considering buying a vintage Bianchi, but I don't know what model or year it is. The serial number is 8L 4042. Would anyone have any idea what the model and year built. Or where can I find the info.

Welcome to the forums. The S/N does not include coding for the model name, nor does it tell us the exact year. However, it is a Italian manufactured model from very late 1978 or 1988 and should therefore be a 1979 or 1989 model. We should be able to determine the model and decade from frame characteristics and components. Please post pictures. Ignore the site warning. Despite your not having the required number of posts, photos will upload to a gallery album under your user name, where members can view them.

I had a look at the pictures. The decals are 1988 to 1989 and the frame features are consistent with the era, so it would appear to be a 1989 model manufactured in late 1988. Unfortunately, there are some modifications that complicate identification of the model. The brakeset is an obvious upgrade and despite the presence of the Forumla II decal, the fork also appears to be a replacement. The drivetrain, assuming is OEM, is typical of a Canadian market Campione d'Italia.

Sn: As316717
I am checking a Canadian Bianchi bike which SN is AS316717. It comes with Shimano 600 groupset. I believe that is is from Japan. Can anyone tell me what year and model is this bike please? How much does it cost now? I guess it is a blue 1985 Giro. It looks almost the same as the catalog except that it is Shimano groupset.
Thanks
Benny

Welcome to the forums. Your Bianchi was manufactured in Japan during January 1983 and therefore is a 1983 model. I don't know what this model was called, at that time. Value will be highly dependent on the cosmetic and mechanical condition and where you live. Consequently, we'll require photos, to properly assess the first two parameters.

Hi Guys,
A question about a Bianchi serial number. The bike appears to be from the early 1980's (perhaps late 70's). Serial number is: GL28281? Or it could read 6L28281. The serial number was on the head tube (nothing under the BB). Or is this just a part number for the head tube?
My guess is that this is manufactured in Japan?

Hi T-Mar,
Thank you for your reply! A few pictures of the bike below. Note that it has been repainted and stickered - apparently faithful to the original (although for sure the celeste is the wrong colour...).

I recently began reviving a Bianchi Eros that I purchased new in 1993 from LBS in Pacific Grove, CA, and in the process, I came across this invaluable and informative thread. With appreciation to T-Mar and Bianchigirll, I'm contributing the following info to the database:
1992 Bianchi Eros in gunmetal grey, 58cm, with serial number H1K04855 stamped on underside of BB, outfitted with Shimano RX100 (additional specs provided in last pic that I think I got from LBS sales pamphlet when I bought the bike.) From what I've learned from T-Mar's postings, this bike was manufactured by in Nov 1991 by Hodaka in Taiwan, a few months before Corto's Eros referenced in post #1080.)
As a newbie, I'm unable to attach pics to this post, but instead, I've included relevant pics in the Forum's albums.
First pic is bike as equipped in 1993, followed by a clearer pic from Jul 2021 (with some mods as part of ongoing effort to get it back on the road after nearly 20 years in storage, most notably switching from RX100 downtube shifters to Shimano Tourney ST-A070's on the dropbar.)
I don't recall exactly, but the flyer may not have been for the 1992 models, and instead for 1993 or even 1991. I say that, because I have some foggy memory of something along those lines when I bought the bike, and the colors option in the flyer showing only Sea Green and Copper Matte, but mine was in Gunmetal Grey (at least that's the name of the color indicated on the original LBS receipt.)
